Trump is right about the War of 1812

Trump is right about the War of 1812.In late May, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a crotchety phone argument about trade with President Donald Trump. As CNN reports, Trudeau objected to the idea that Canada was a “national security” problem (the legal justification for the tariffs Trump was introducing). Trump responded, “Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?” Trump was referring to the famous burning of Washington conducted during the War of 1812. (The event actually took place in 1814).

Pedants immediately jumped in to accuse Trump of an error. After all, wasn’t the torching of the White House conducted by British troops, under the command of Admiral George Cockburn?(continued)

The Grits eventually gave up on the idea of pushing through from Canada. They lost Brock, They lost Tecumseh, and they fizzled after MacDonough and Perry beat the Brits on the Great Lakes.

Strictly speaking it was the British and not the Canadians.

For the record: A great majority of Canadians most certainly do NOT hate the United States.

When you hear about Canadians who dislike/hate the US, its usually the same culprits that we see in America who also hate the US: LEFTISTS.

The brotherly love that is most often shared between Americans and Canadians is usually between Conservative Americans and Canadians.

What's ridiculous about this is how serious the comment is being taken by these propaganda outlets, when it was obviously not a serious response as to why he put tariffs on Canada. It sounds more like Trump responding to Trudeau using our previous alliances as an excuse for why they should be able to do anything they want without any consequences.

Trump should pull us out of NAFTA and negotiate with Canada and Mexico separately. They are trying to stand their ground with Trump and they need to realize quickly he's not going to back down until he gets what he wants. He has to keep showing he's willing to take action if he doesn't see signs they are serious about giving in to some of our demands.

I wasn’t very clear.

They hate us because we “invaded” their “country” which wasn’t.

I remember 60 years ago when Disney’s THE SWAMP FOX was on. The Canadians were having a fit because of all the anti-Tory talk in it as so many Tories left the soon-to-be USA and resettled in Canada.

Belvoir, the Fairfax family’s plantation next to Mt Vernon, was a casualty of the Revolution. George William Fairfax was in England and renting out the property when the war broke out, and being a Loyalist his property was confiscated. Ironically George Washington’s brother married Fairfax’s sister, Anne, and the young George Washington was a frequent visitor to Belvoir.

Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox tail on his hat
Nobody knows where the Swamp Fox is at.

That’s all I remember from the show.

There is one other interesting dimension to “187”-that it comes to mind because of British Intel involvement in the attempted coup against PDJT. In fact they may turn out to be the prime instigators that elements in our govmt were working on behalf of the Brits.

09/11/1814-09/11/2001 = 187

911 was an attempted American kill shot

09/11/1814 was the Battle of Plattesburg-the final defeat of the Brits in the War of 1812

The seeds of greatness at a early age. You speak authoritatively about Trump’s history. Is there a book covering his days at NYMA?

They also Burned down Buffalo, and as a result the Sabres and Bills are still suffering.

Burned down Buffalo? Maybe that's why the Sabres had a fire sale.

There are a couple Trump by Gwenda Blair has the large book on he, his father, and grandfather. And just the smaller one taken from it on him
It’s probably most researched although some of the conclusions from material gathered may be in question.

You are welcome to look through my collection of articles by searching keyword “respositorytrump”. Started saving articles (no tabloid) the day he announced. The earliest ones contain family history.

My fifth great aunt Sarah was married to a Trump so we started digging early

Also read The Last Farmer by Howard Kohn (so). It gives you an idea of the German work ethic that founded the farmers in Midwest as well as the Trump family
It was actually his grandmother who found herself a young widow with three children that started the family construction business. Wish someone would point that out. Fred (his father was the oldest at 11) when his father died. Mom sent him to trade school to learn electricity, plumbing etc while he also went to high school. She’d buy the houses, Fred fixed them up and then they’d buy more. She sent the daughter to business school to learn to keep the books. John was suppose to be the architect of the family business but he had other ideas.

I agree with your post except for the Trump should keep his mouth shut thing.

Perhaps Trudeau doesn’t know that we fought our northern neighbors 6 times (almost 7). Or that the concept of a Canada was not even a twinkle in England’s eye in 1814. Apparently none of our overpaid cable news opinionators and pundits know either, along with 3/4ths of American college students.

They all got educated along with their egg facials. Not that many will now admit it as their faces slowly draw as tight as their clenched buttocks.

Your post #22.

Strictly speaking it was the British and not the Canadians.

You know your history. A special force of all British troops were shipped from England. The Canadians were a British colony. Some Canadians were none to happy with that, but certainly feared American expansion. The British then burned the White House in a retaliation for American incursions into Ontario.

So glad myself that the Treaty of Ghent 1815,in neutral Belgium, let wiser heads prevail.

Best neighbours in the world today.

I remember it as well, but was too young to understand the historical context. All I got out of it was the horses, swords, guns and the cool costumes and air of adventure. Of course, living very close to where the Swamp Fox operated, I learned all about him growing up.

By an interesting coincidence, however, I recently stumbled across some episodes of the show on Youtube.com. Imagine my surprise to see that the Swamp Fox was... hold on... Leslie Nielsen, aka Frank Drebin(Police Squad!; The Naked Gun)!
