Connecticut manufacturers, looking to fill thousands of jobs, are reaching beyond community colleges and vocational schools to persuade high school students to embrace careers in 21st-century factories.
Its not an easy task as educators and manufacturers battle stereotypes of old, dirty factories.
The struggle has been getting the kids to see it, said Mark Ruede, assistant principal at Manchester High School. We definitely have some perception work to do in town.

” battle stereotypes of old, dirty factories “
In the case of Pratt in East Hartford, it’s not a stereotype.
The place is a pit.
Mike Rowe was right about reintroducing automotive, woodshop, welding, et cetera, to high school.
In my life this is the best job market I have ever seen. None others even come close to this. I wish it was like this in the 80’s when I graduated high school. Or in the late 80’s when I got out of the service.

Throw in a 401k and you could be a millionaire in 15 years. Those that opened Home Depot did just that.
I notice they are not looking for muslim refugees from 0bama’s plan.
Agree with you.
Obambi encouraged the handout
lifestyle.
From what I have been told, it was like this in the 50’s!
The 50s were heaven for job hunting,I was there.
Rowe focused on the problem of subsidizing universities first though. I would like to see Federal financial aid restricted to vocational, apprenticeship, community or technical colleges.
The HS that my kids attended has had a tech program for many years.

As Maynard G. Krebbs would say...
“WORK?!”
Offer higher wages maybe someone will come offthe welfare.
My dad would tell me how you could quit one factory on a Tues and walk down the road and have a job on Thursday back in the early 70s.
I wasn’t working in the 70s,but I’m sure your Dad was right.
