Jack Ryan (Tom Clancy) Series on Amazon Prime [Vanity]

Just finished binge watching the new series. I thought it was pretty well done. Sure made me want to kick some radical fundamental Muslim butt. Scenes from Paris with entire neighborhoods overrun with Muslims made me angry too. I recommend watching it if you get time.

Re #15:

MOST of Child’s Jack Reacher novels aren’t very political. Occasionally you’ll get a left wing taste in your mouth but it’s not often. The exception is his novel “Nothing To Lose”, which almost reads like a different author wrote it. For the most part Lee Child knows which side his bread is buttered on.

good action full of typical made for TV errors that real soldiers would never make.

I think you will like this version. It has some shoot-em-up stuff but it’s also quite cerebral.

Yes, had a brain fart. It was John Clark I was thinking of. “Without Remorse” was outstanding.

Was “Jack Reacher” a character in the book “Term Limits”?

They made a mistake picking the guy from The Office.

Back in my grunt days, we wore the rip-stops year-long. Not as ‘warm’ as the regular woodland BDU’s, but they dried while you wore them when you got wet. Regular BDU’S were like wearing a soggy sleeping bag if they got wet, and boy did you suffer for it.

From what I’ve read, this is supposed to be a more cerebral version....just like the books.

Too true.

And in summer, especially the tropics, the woodlands were a misery.

Oh got you now. I’ve seen the first Jack Reacher movie with Cruise. It was entertaining.

Weren’t the old rip stop camo’s called ERDL or something? The old cotton poplin ripstops in OD were issued for the Summer in Turkey. They looked sweet starched with spit shined jungle boots. Comfortable, good looking, and practical. Army had to get rid of them. Nobody makes money off of gear the troops love.

I wondered about that too but after watching it all the way through I think he pulled it off okay.

Have seen it all the way through too?

I’m about half way through the first episode. So far, I just wish that Jack Ryan didn’t look so much like some millennial version of Paul Ryan, but other than that glaring problem, it’s ok so far.

Saw Episode 1 and 2. [Spoiler alert]

The action was pretty intense, but there were major holes. I mean, who lets trucks that close to the compound walls, and who fails to use a bayonet to make sure the dead bodies you are paying for are really dead. And who brings a parade of official police and SWAT vehicles, with lights flashing, down the streets. I was waiting for them to turn on the sirens and announce the raid over the PA.

I hope later episodes tighten up a lot more.

On the positive side I did get a good laugh when, headed to a raid, one armed-to-the-hilt and battle-hardened Navy Seal (or similar) handed the unarmed Ryan a handgun and told him to not get jumpy and accidentally shoot him in the ass. He told Ryan, "My kids think I'm an astronaut, and it would be hard to explain how I got shot in space."

The basics are the same, but remember the original books were 25-30 years ago. It’s been updated.

It’s pretty good. Better than Homeland. Not as hokey as Mission Imposdible. More Jason Bourne without the car chases.
