Everyone has a bad day, or behaves in a bad way at some time or another... Since the invention of the video camera however, certain folks get to have their moments captured for all to see... and now thanks to the cell phone camera, nearly everyone’s moments of failing get captured as well...

I am not defending Serenas action, but no one can live under the constant glare and always look good.

As I said, I am not a fan of hers... yes, she should have behaved better, but she’s also a failed and flawed creature just like we all are. Fortunately for the rest of us, when we fail, few are watching or care.

Again, I don’t like Serena, but lets put a camera on yourself 24/7/365 for your entire life and see how many times we can find you behaving in ways that are less than spectacular.... I suspect the number would be a lot higher than 3.... That’s all I’m saying.

Should she have behaved better sure, is she a flawed human like everyone else? You betcha.

Lord knows I am glad i don’t have a camera on me 24/7... I enjoy the anonymity of my life.

It would be with the Coach AFTER the match, once I knew what he had done.. because during the match I had no idea what my coach had done... At the moment of the infraction my anger would be at the ref for from where I sit, being penalized for not doing anything wrong.

No it was my understanding she was penalized a POINT for the cheating, she penalized the MATCH for the racket....

The chickensh*t rule the referee cited was that coaching can only occur during the 10 minute rest period during the match.

It’s not a rule that impacts the game like a call on the line or a half inch outside the line.

It’s a rule of expediency, to keep the game going and not to have huddles with the coach every few minutes or so. That’s the basis of the rule but clearly that was not happening in this match.

It’s not a rule that this moronic referee should have cited.

The coach admitted he held up a banana to remind her to eat a banana during the rest period. Bananas are good for potassium helping an athlete’s body to calm. That can be constituted as a form of coaching but Serena never saw it. Such a stupid issue in a grand slam match. It really is a reason to ask for one’s money back.

Serena was not having a great day that day but this referee triggered her and when she demanded an explanation of why she was getting hit with an arcane rule that she herself did not violate, then the referee was heard to say that she was coached and that this coaching was ‘cheating’. This caused Serena to go ballistic and yelling at the judge that her daughter was watching and that as a mother she never cheated ever.

People on these FR threads that call Serena a ‘thug’, spoiled, demanding that she and only she get the win, etc. are disgusting. They side with chickensh*t issues for God knows what reason. This behavior is more repugnant than a champion athlete getting enraged in a grand slam match event.

The evidence of that is that the crowd sided with Serena, not for the win, because it was clear Naomi was at top of her game that day and Serena was off. The crowd was supporting Serena against the referee because it was basically chickensh*t and why pay money to see a moronic referee insert his person into the match over such a trivial issue?

Serena should congratulate Naomi because Naomi was a superstar that day. Serena is also a superstar. But she’s human and one can empathize with her just as the crowd did against a poor referee. I don’t think the referee has a future in tennis events. He would do better tending bar, maybe.

Ever watch baseball? Imagine an ump seeing a player cheating, disrupting play with a tantrum for twenty minutes, throwing equipment and then when the ump does something about it, he is called a liar and thief and told “you will never umpire a game I am in again.” Hahahahahahaha, they would be out so fast their head would spin and probably suspended for the season. Get real, Serena Williams loves the camera, she plays to it constantly which is why she was firing up the audience at the US Open.

Her coach ADMITTED he did it... but said she didn’t see it... so she may feel she was wronged because she was penalized for cheating when in fact her coach was trying to cheat, but she didn’t see his signals...

The camera caught her looking over to her coach several times, so I don't think we, or the rules should take that into consideration. She is clearly a "do you know who I am?" sort of celebrity. She should be suspended for calling the linesman a thief and suggesting he'd not work another of her events. That all being said, I don't understand why there is a "no coaching" rule...seems kind of silly and unnecessary.

Just so you know. Coaching for women’s tennis is allowed by the WTA in all tounaments except for Grand Slam events. Coaching is NOT allowed in men’s tennis at all. (I guess that’s another sexist complaint Williams can assert). Lol

The fact that he was doing it, she would be aware of the potential. The fact that she was struggling and didn’t look at him doesn’t preclude that there wasn’t and understanding.

I am not a tennis buff but I am a father and when I saw the young girl that won the trophy crying at the ceremony because of the controversy, I became mad. Serena knows better!

You keep coming on the threads and calling people names for Ponting out the truth. Y You refuse to accept the rules of the game as they exist. You make excuses for player who has a history of badgering the governing body of tennis using her race as a club. I’m not sure you even know anything about tennis as a professional sport. You clearly don’t know how the USTA treats minority players over others.

It’s as though you are taking it personally. I don’t get it.

Arguments and flare-ups happen ALL THE DAMN TIME in pro sports. This coach is one of hundreds in history that has gone off the rails on an umpire:

Is this manager a "thug"? A "spoiled highly-privileged individual with no talent"? Needs to shut up? Throwing a "hissy fit"? A "Wookie"? "Obviously on steroids"? A "sore loser"?

Yeah, all were comments from the FR peanut gallery, not one who could go a full minute set with Serena, their behinds would be whipped by her in a nanosecond, humiliated like they never dreamed they could be.

She's a superstar.

And she is supported by other tennis superstars such as Novak Djokovic who said this:

"But I have my personal opinion that maybe the chair umpire should not have pushed Serena to the limit, especially in a Grand Slam final," he said. "Just maybe changed — not maybe, but he did change the course of the match. It was, in my opinion, maybe unnecessary. We all go through our emotions, especially when you're fighting for a Grand Slam trophy."

"I just feel like, as Serena said yesterday in the closing ceremonies, Osaka deserves to have her moment. As for Serena, she knows I love her. She really inspires everyone. To see her still being so dedicated and so committed to this sport, it's inspiring really to me and to many tennis players, both men and women, around the world."

All you need to know.

Could be postpartum, maybe she should get treatment and not have meltdowns?

Well she sure wasn’t pregnant in 2009 when she threatened to shove a
F***ing ball down a lineswomans (an ASIAN WOMAN as a matter of fact) mother F***ing throat.

Actually. when I think about it does Serena have racial issues with ASIAN WOMEN, after all, Naomi’s Osaka is also Asian.
