FLINT, Michigan — Lear is planning a massive three-day hiring effort to fill 400 open jobs at its new Flint manufacturing facility: Resumes can be dropped off 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 3-5 at the new Lear plant, 902 E. Hamilton Ave. in Flint.

Pay starts at $13.85 for the positions, which are permanent, with a second- and third-shift premium of $0.30 per hour. Lear also offers annual pay increases as well as health benefits including low-cost medical, dental, and vision coverage after 90 days of employment. Employees also are eligible for 401(k) and paid vacation time after one year of employment.

Lear opened its new seat manufacturing plant in August on 30 acres of what used to be known as Buick City. The Flint site joins a family of over 260 Lear facilities around the world. Lear is a top General Motors supplier and rates 148 on the Fortune 500 list.

Lear expects to employ more than 600 employees when it reaches full production in 2019.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and be available to work any shift as well as weekends and overtime when needed.

The job requires employees to perform physical activities, including being able to lift and carry heavy objects, stand for long periods of time, make quick repetitive movements with hands and wrists, and operate pneumatic tools.

Once hired, employees must be able to pass a background check, physical demands test and hair-follicle drug screen.

If you are unable to attend the resume dropoff event, resumes also will be accepted after Jan. 5, 2018, at flintjobs@lear.com.

The follicle test will be the main one to trip up applicants, at least in Flint, or fairly nearby Detroit. Most unemployed, underemployed, and substance abusers in Michigan do, I suspect, have a GED or even have graduated high school *and* can sign their names. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
