n an unsurprising move, the New York state authorities rejected a proposal for a new natural gas pipeline that would have supplied 400 million cu ft of natural gas daily to the state where energy demand is growing, but so is fossil fuel opposition on the highest political level.

Not really. This is what it means to respect the wishes of constituents.

I disagree. This is what happens when politicians ignore the wishes of constituents - except for the loudmouth minority that the pols agree with.

“Let the b*stards freeze in the dark!”

That was the cry many years ago when the oil prices spiked during the Carter years, when oil exploration was prohibited EVERYWHERE in the US, in a spate of overregulation and “turning down the thermostat”.

Also, all the natural gas use was strictly limited, cutting off the gaslight-mantle yard lights which were once a feature of many homes, and most especially shutting off the natural-gas fired searchlight beacon which once shown above the Playboy Mansion in Chicago, and was a great guide for incoming pilots.

Good idea. But those turbines would have to be really small. Can't interfere with the skyline views, or anything like that. This should do:

How we produce electricity is changing. A nuke take over a thousand people to run. A coal plant 600-900. A gas powered (co-gen) turbine 3 men and many times no one is there but site is monitored.

I guess shutting down the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant (about 2000 MW) within the next couple of years won’t be a problem. It is located about 35 miles up the Hudson River from New York City.
