Many services that rely on Google Cloud were down today. Could that have been it?

sounds like you have been a victim of a ROKU SCAM floating around.
when i signed up my Roku device they specifically mentioned the scam....Roku does not charge money to activate the device.

Last time I called Jenny, I only had to spend a dime.

If you're on FR, then you're on a computer or a device with browser.
Go to a beach engine like Google or Bing and type-in Roku.
You'l find it right away.
Easy peasy.
PS. Try restarting your internet modem to see if it will come back.

If you are into US history of the 20th century (1910+) check out Retro Tech Channel its only available on Roku. Their $25 player has replaced my $125 a mo cable bill. As much as I hate g00gle, You Tube TV app is cutting edge. It makes services like Sling look paltry in comparison, Cheers!

“I paid a one time fee”
Do you mean the cost of the stick, or was there a fee in addition to that.
I just ordered a Roku and should receive it tomorrow. I thought you just bought the device and paid for whatever streaming services you want separately.
