The trouble with too many fast-food restaurants is that they're often so close together.
It's like car dealers who line up in auto malls, waiting for customers to greet each brand in turn, as if it's a wedding line.
With the fast-food joints, rivals can see what the competition is doing by just looking out of the window. Which makes me wonder what the staff at McDonald's are going to be thinking next year.
You see, one of McDonald's peskier rivals -- Wendy's -- just announced that it's going to start doing something that may seem a touch obvious.
It's going to start offering breakfast at all of its 5,900 U.S. restaurants.
Wendy's describes this as "an incredible growth opportunity."

And their service sucks. Back in the 70s I would order food, turn my head and briefly talk to the person with me, turn my head back, and the order was ready and good. Now the same Wendy’s doesn’t mind if you drive away with half your order. My ex SIL used to work from them as a manager. Years ago I asked her if they could still do quick service like they used to. She said they could but they just don’t care to.

You cannot pay me to eat at Wendy’s, McDonald’s or any other fast food joint. But all power to them—if it works, it works.
“See...no one seems to remember: Wendys already DID do breakfast. And it was a flop.”
I do. The only fake scrambled egg I ever had that actually tasted not just bland but Baaad. And I eat fast food breakfast almost every day, even now. But I’ll give the new version a try. Hope they offer all-day breakfast like Mcd (I’m slow getting out).
How do you get your doughnuts?
BTW, just because I am interested in fast food marketing doesn’t mean I eat fast food breakfasts often. My wife keeps me in line on that, and makes me two fried eggs and either red and green fried peppers or mushrooms. She’s not a big fan of most non-stick coatings, so she uses olive oil PAM. If I had my druthers, I would supplement with bacon or sausage. I don’t often get my druthers.
Our local McD’s just got rid of “All Day Breakfast” items a few weeks ago. The well-run Wendy’s 2 blocks away will benefit greatly!
Unless they have some new products for breakfast their existing breakfast menu, in restaurants that serve breakfast sucks
I’m surprised at that. A good proportion of the orders even in mid-afternoon are breakfast items at our franchise, and “ADB” items nationwide are a large contributor to profitability.
Their salads are worth driving out of your way for. They have chili which is pretty good. The frosties are very nice. The burgers are average but then most fast food burgers are average and mcdonalds hamburgers are below average. Wendys fries are pretty good too. Mcdonalds does kick ass in the fries division. Wendys has unpeeled potatoes and sea salt. Like all fries they are best when fresh and hot.
“I can get two, some tater tots and a coffee for $3.00 with a coupon”
That BK app or newspaper coupon is 33% more in my territory plus sales tax which puts total cost at about $4.50. But much lower than regular prices which would be around $8-$9 here.
I meant $4. Sorry.
“How do you get your doughnuts?”
What is a “’dough’nut” and what does it have to do with breakfast?
I like their chili and their frosties are pretty good. I agree with you on the burgers, but their fries are not my favorite. I usually get very good fries at BK, and Micky D’s seem to get cold and soggy quickly. I’m sure it depends somewhat on the store you go to.
One thing I like about McDonald’s is your receipt gives you an opportunity to go to their website, fill out a customer satisfaction survey and get a voucher for buy 1, get one free Egg McMuffin or QP. As far as I know you can do that ad infinitum (go use your voucher, buy something, get another receipt, rinse and repeat).
McMuffins are way overpriced but buy 1 get one free seems like a reasonable price. Plus they’re a bit better since they started using real butter on their muffins. Still don’t understand why they have so much trouble assembling a simple sandwich though.
Once up a time I about lived at Wendy’s. Now I so rarely will go there. The prices went through the roof, and the beef can no longer be found in the bun. The French Fries that used to be so much like home cooked are now a greasy mess.
Here is the old “Where’s the Beef” commercial. It is sad to think that Wendy’s now has the smallest hamburgers.

Does anyone else remember those thick cube shaped burgers that they used to make? Those were so good.
Once again we get into this my taste buds vs your taste buds crap. I could care less what you think taste’s good and you could care less what I think taste’s good. Why do we keep going there? I think blue cheese smells like ass and others love it. Eat WTF you want.
It used to offer breakfast, was far better than McDonalds, but discontinued it, think in the late 80s.
If they want to be a player in the breakfast market they are going to have to step up their coffee game.
The key is to offer breakfasts that can be eaten while driving to work.
Most people get breakfast at a fast food joint when they are running late.
