Theres no denying that the healthcare system in the United States has been at the forefront of national discourse in the midst of the democratic presidential primaries. Of course, largely due to the fact that Bernie Sanders has made it his mission to draw attention to and change the fundamental brokenness of the current system. Now it should come as no surprise that calls for an overhaul of the way health insurance is provided such as Bernies Medicare For All plan have been met with staunch resistance not just from the left, but the more moderate, corporate friendly wing of the Democratic Party as well.

I have been self employed for most of my adult life. I therefore have had to purchase my own health insurance for most of my adult life. I liked my health insurance and wanted to keep my health insurance until Obamacare took it away.
I bought an Obamacare policy a couple of years ago because it was the only policy I could get. It had a massively high deductible before it would kick in, but it didn’t matter because none of my doctors or local hospitals would accept it. Since then I have either purchased insurance through a Christian healthshare plan or gone without.
The government will provide citizens free health care the same way that Venezuela gives free stuff to it’s people.
I’m cracking up here.
All of you folks who are saying you like your private insurance how many of you are on cheap monthly premium Medicare or ex gov’t employees with cushy benefits?
I hate private insurance and I sell it to employers. I don’t have a single employer group that does not hate private insurance but they are forced to buy it
My wife and I pay now $1900 per month for both of us with a $800 deductible each.
I do not want Medicare for all(national inusarance) but he private insurance system has been broken for years and it needs major reform.
The reality is that when the government saw health insurance premiums outpacing federal tax payments in paychecks, the government naturally wants to get into the healthcare business.
$8000 deductible each not $800
Blithering idiot. I have had health insurance through my employer since 1967 with absolutely no problem with any claims. Am now going on 77, retired and been on Medicare since turned 65 with a medicare supplemental policy as well. Happy to pay both Medicare and supplemental policy premiums as well, and have had numerous hospital visits, outpatient care and doctor visits, all with no payment issues.
so I guess it's not really private then, is it?
“Blithering idiot.”
I think the author is talking about under age 65 private insurance, not Medicare which works great.
I miss mine, it got outlawed. I miss having a deductible half as much as current. I miss having options.
Instead, I’m being forced to buy one size fits no one healthcare which is mandated to have maternity coverage (guess in case I decide to put on a dress.) And monthly premium options available to equal or exceed your rent.
Which is entirely the point. Make it awful for people so that they’ll bow down and accept government health care. Because the DMV experience is what you want while bleeding out.
Then why does Twitter say that it doesn’t?
I do! Therefore the statement is a lie.
I do.
Mine is ok.
I loved mine... until Obamacare.
I paid $6K for a family plan, and everything I had needed was covered. After Obamacare it was $18K before they even paid one cent (because of the $6K deductible)
I gave up having health insurance because of that.
Says who? I have excellent health insurance through my employer. My husband has congestive heart failure and other problems. Our costs have been low. We have a low deductible and low, manageable copays and drug costs. We wouldn’t have that with socialized medicine! The government needs to stay out of our health care.
The biggest problem is we don’t have real Health Insurance, Insurance is supposed to cover an unforseeable or catastrophic event, NOT REGULAR CARE. You have a sniffle, fall down and break your toe,got a rash, need a stitch or two, Go to damned Doctor and PAY for it yourself, everyone of these can be had for an Office Visit Charge only, even today.
Our policy was Awesome, $200 per month for the 2 of us, $10,000 deductible, 100% coverage up to $3 million, NO Co-Pay. Unfortunately the Marxist Muslim Petulant Duplicitious Man Child’s “Affordable Care Act” made those plans Illegal.
Today the cheapest plan is $1200 per Month with an $8000 deductible and a 40% co pay. So we choose to shop and pay CASH, and medical care is actually pretty CHEAP when you start paying for it yourself.
Yeah, before ObamaCare, I was self insured and happy. Then I had to pay over $500/month for a $5000 deductible plan. Ugh!
Yep, same problem here...the plan the wife and I priced out for early retirement was declared illegal under the ACA, now we are left with a “health share ministry” as our only option.
Twitter? A bird brain?
