Kemal Beys hanging in Bayezid Square occurred in the immediate aftermath of the Great War. Here, on its last legs, the remains of a sultanate splintered apart in the war instituted tribunals for wartime offenses by the Young Turks who had run the government during the war a sop to the British occupying forces making worrying noises about international trials for much bigger fish.

The much admired founder of the modern Turkish republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, has on his hands the blood of millions of Armenians, Greeks, and Jews.

One famous case was that of Soghomon Tehlirian, who assasinated Talaat Pasha (one of the "Young Turks") on the street in front of his house. He admitted as such in his trial and was promptly acquitted.
From Wikipedia:
When asked by the judge if he felt any sort of guilt, Tehlirian remarked, "I do not consider myself guilty because my conscience is clear I have killed a man. But I am not a murderer."
The jury returned a verdict of not-guilty in a little over an hour. He is revered by Armenians as national hero.
