Criticized?
I’d be applauding them.
People should send in their gratitude that these fake studies are getting blowback.
Compared to any of the “Studies” professors they’re probably the only ones doing any useful work!
I’d re-instate them and fire another batch of “studies” & liberal arts\humanities professors.
3000? Sounds like the next batch for the top of the list.
Welcome to real life//
They don’t have grass trampled by students to fix or garbage created by students to throw out.
They do have a powerful union that will push for more faculty cuts to make things “fair.”
"The students will be better off if they drop those courses"
More, please.......
The use of those degrees was to quickly up the number of women & minorities in the faculty lounges.
...and nothing of value was lost.
On a more serious note, the assorted studies majors tend to be academically week, with not much emphasis on empirical facts. They are activism masquerading as education. If you have to cut a department, better these than others.
Grievance majors are nonsense, they have their own bureaucratic structure. It starts with a Diversity Position in University ADMIN pushing for These type programs. Colleges then start offering these courses which then demands a Department, which now has a Department Head, which then has Faculty and Instructors in said Department. As more and more grievance degrees are started, the University ADMIN Diversity Officer has his or her fiefdom grow, as their Unit has Assistant Directors for each PC group, Gays, Lesbians, Transgenders, Woman’s studies, Black Studies, Hispanic studies, and any other group blessed by the University Diversity ADMIN.
These types of situations are all over US Higher ED. Students go to expensive colleges and get advised into these majors (negligence), get strapped with tons of debt and leave the University with a skill set to get on Twitter and make rants, nothing productive for society.
Women, minorities most affected.
Good start
And the stupidity bleeds over into even normal real degrees when students are required to take a course or two to fulfill their degree requirements, and believe the garbage their little heads are filled with for a semester or two. it doesn’t take much for even pretty well grounded kids to get their heads all messed up.
I hope all these programs bite the dust. They are worse than useless, they are actively harmful.
Winning.
According to other articles, the University sent out notices that contracts weren’t going to be renewed for non-tenure track and some tenure-track positions where someone doesn’t have tenure yet. This is SOP for a University when dealing with budget cuts. Surprised there were only three.
Many years ago colleges and universities were eliminating the geography departments and both tenured and non-tenured faculty were laid off. Tenure does not always protect a faculty member if the entire department is eliminated. More recently some colleges and universities eliminated majors in Latin, Greek, or more generally classical languages.
The elimination of a major or even a department does not mean that a freshman level course in gender studies or Latin will be eliminated. Those courses can still be offered but anchored in a different department. Gender Studies 101 could be offered in the political science department or the sociology department.
Lawsuit....sealed settlement...the “professors” get a nice,easy payday.
We should see more of this
When I was in college in the 70’s, Propaganda Analysis was a required course for graduation. We read the Readers Digest to prove how the older generation was lying to us.
I just learned that everyone was lying..........................
