The ammo is available if you’re willing to pay $60 for a box of 9MM range ammo and $100 for a 500 round box of .22......
All us crazy gun owners told people years ago to start buying and stocking ammo——yet they called us crazy. Now they’re frantically shopping for guns and ammo...
bump
I was plenty stocked up on ammo until DementiaJoe talked me into buying a firearm in a different caliber. Now I have to start over.
VSTO reports earnings today after the close. They make Federal/CCI/Blazer etc. America’s largest ammo company.
Yep, I bought it cheap and stacked it deep.
My local Walmart is now selling a ton of 22 and 308. My suppliers are saying that it’s coming back, albeit slowly.
Just like Obama this current White house occupant makes big promises with gun control with no follow through.
I started stocking up in the dips between the first big run after the Kenyanesian Usurpation and after the Sandy Hook run.
I do feel a little sorry for those late to the game, they are screwed.
This ammo run has no end in sight.
Me too.
If LuckyGunner.com is any weather vane, ammo is more available and prices are coming down. 9mm is down to 72 cents a round from 92.
There were 21 million guns sold in 2020, not 15 million.
There were 8.4 million new gun owners, not 5.1 million.
I suspect his numbers were taken before the year was done.
I'm seeing more ads in my email in box for ammunition, mainly 9mm and .223/5.56, for sale, and usually at a "discounted" price of a couple bucks off of the 500% inflated price over 'normal.' So supply is slowly increasing, even if prices are not decreasing.
There continues to be a component shortage for the makers, mainly in primers. I don't have time to find links, but at least two companies have begun setting up new primer manufacturing lines, so within 6 months the primer shortage should be over.
Once that happens, then supply should be enough that prices will come down and settle at a new norm that is higher than the pre-2018 prices, but much lower than they are today.
The same thing happened in the 2008 time frame. Pre-2008 $8/50 9mm eventually became $12/50 9mm. I would expect that the new normal will be $15/50 for 9mm 115gn range ammo.
But it may well be 2022 before we see those prices.
Ammo shortage -
Is that like .22 Short and 9mm Kurtz?
I hit several gun shows and bought by the case. All stored in military ammo boxes with desiccant.
We sell ammo where I work (thank you Lord!). I can purchase 300 round boxes of 9mm with my discount for .27 each and get first pick of our inventory. (Thank you again!) The only .223 we have right now is steel - I wouldn’t subject my guns to that.
A little over a year ago, Wal-mart sold out of handgun ammo with 9mm going for 15 cents a round. I was able to get several hundred rounds, which caused a near by man to say “what are you going to do with all that ammo, arm a militia?
I hope that man is now paying a dollar a round for 9mm.
I can get a box of 50 9mm rounds online for $40, but its only FMJ. But its okay. I never use my JHP for target practice anyway.
About two months ago, it was only $50-$60 a box; it has come down a little since then.
If you are okay with steel ammo, you can find that for maybe $30 a box.
BTT
Diligence and patience! If you need *right now* it’s trouble, and you’re prey.
If you have time, a quick search just this moment (https://ammoseek.com/ammo/9mm-luger?ca=brass) shows prices under $0.50/rnd for 9; $0.72 for 45. Not good but not auction site crazy.
Same site for HST: I paid $40/50; current search says $60/50.
tl;dr: awful for the shooting sport and hobby, but for defensive use / new owners, it’s just a bit elevated.
Side note: if you’re stocked up on primers or complete rounds, stop telling everyone online. If I were a thug, I’d be doxxing the people claiming to have backstock with intent to get a 100% discount rate on bulk ammo when they go out or on vacation... and I don’t care if you are John Wick, do you really want to be that tied to being guardian of your stuff?
BiMart had lots of 7.62x51($21/20 rds) and 7.62x39($15/20 rds) last week. Purchase limits apply.
I found that plastic boxes leak & got dessicant that changes color as it sucks up water...
It can be dried in a microwave.
