so that you are compelled to “teach” the poor ignorant fools what you know?

That is the part of his problem.
Why are you trying to confront someone?
If they are family you either say I can deal with them as they are or you cut off contact.
Confronting them does exactly nothing good for anyone. They know exactly what they are doing and have chosen to continue to do so.
Are you trying to build up Holiness points? It does not work that way and of course you were not able to forgive them. You just poured gas on the fires of resentment in your heart.

I can understand a communist, a BLM agitator, a member of Antifa, or an illegal immigrant. I can even have some respect for them if they are honestly doing what they think right for themselves, their family, or for the world.
I hate far, far more, the useless sacks of excrement who say one thing and do another. Who rail against abortion but send their daughter for one, who blather about drunk driving and then drive drunk, who preach and propagate against homosexuals and their lifestyle while actually practicing same sex.
Give me a member of the Taliban or a straight-up Chinese Communist over a damned preacher with a mistress or male lover. Give me an atheist who says what they mean over some phony telling me what I should do without doing it.
And yes, I'm quite aware of Paul writing of not doing what he wanted to do and doing what he didn't want to do; that matters not at all to me, you ain't Paul.
Hypocrites are the lowest form of intellectual life.
The more someone talks about morals and ethics, the closer I hold my wallet and the more certain I am that they are not to be trusted.
But even in the best of circumstances, the outcome is uncertain, because so much depends on the attitudes of both participants in the conversation.

My mom said to me once, I know we were not perfect parents... and I stopped her right there. Because, while not perfect, they were excellent parents and I was not going to let her beat herself up over a few very minor missteps.
I also know were this was coming from. And I felt very much like going and hitting a certain someone repeatedly. But confrontation was not going to do any good so I didn't.
