Nobody seems to notice it fails to cover my nose.

I got a great deal of amusement over the very cold days last winter watching people walking down the street with all that breath coming out of their masks.

Yeah. Those things work.

You big city people are interesting. :)

Only four businesses open in my hamlet on Sunday. Food-mart, Pharmacy, diner and, after noon, the watering hole/pool hall.

A fat, young chick chased me through the lobby of the Cleveland Clinic. I was about 30 feet from the door when she screamed “Ma’am ma’am, where’s your mask?”

As I kept walking toward the door, I told her that I was leaving. One would have thought she could have figured that out.

She continued screaming at me, “We noticed you weren’t wearing a mask. You must wear a mask at all times in the building.” (Funny, it didn’t bother my cardiologist.)

I told her COVID was the least of her worries...that being fat was much more of a health hazard.

She didn’t appreciate my words of wisdom. Fatsos never do.

Absolutely. The petty bureaucrats thrived under Hitler and Stalin.

Our entire state is mandated, I only put them on when asked by an employee but make sure to ask if they know they don’t work.

I was gonna say it might be fun to jog around the store with her chasing you. If she caught up, just tell her you thought she could use the exercise.

I'm a regular at the "inadequate Newtown Library" in Connecticut (an inside joke with a fellow local Freeper who has a much better library at home!0.

When I say I'm a regular there, I'm saying that I go there at least once a week. And when I say inadequate, it's based on the fact that more and more of the space is given over to videos such as movies, games and music. Because fewer and fewer people actually read books anymore! Unless they are by Stephen King, that Koontz guy, and John Grisham - who wrote pretty much the same legal thriller at least 25 times now along with some schlocky book about Christmas.

But I digress.

But I reply because I had the same experience as you a few months ago when the "mask mandate" suddenly, and for no good reason, became a thing in Newtown once again.

I was oblivious to this because I don't pay much attention to local news and was not aware a mask mandate was back in place. So I enter the library through the front door (most people enter it from the back) and spend about an hour perusing the shelves to get my books with no harassment whatsoever. I then go to the self-checkout area where you scan your card and then scan your books for check-out.

As I'm doing this, I get the shrill woman behind the desk saying "Sir, sir, sir" with her finger wagging..."Facemasks are now required in the library".

Mind you, this is after an hour of walking through the shelves and picking out my books and being totally unmolested.

So I just gather up my books, give her a smile and tell her to have a nice day.

Nothing ever came of it. I've been back there a good number of times since and nobody ever challenged me again.

Sorry to hear you actually got kicked out. The public library is one of the few things left to us that are actually worth the tax dollars we pay.

I’ve collected over 7000 free books from Amazon kindle.
The Freebooksy.com email list is great. Book Barbarian has a few daily free books.

And then I’ve bought a few thousand more from freeebook.com and Encore book warehouse.

I will probably never read but a small fraction of them.

I worked at the NC State Fair today. Masks optional. Some did, some didn’t, no problems.

You forgot the obligatory coughing fit before asking if she was sure a mask was needed. Gets them every time.

My optometrist has gone over the edge on masks.

If she were not so good at her job and her office having the top of the line technology....and my eyes needing the best, I would find another OD. It’s gotten creepy. I suspect, based on her comments, that she is never going to let go of the mask thing.

The SC state fair is sadly here so I will have to suffer it since the spouse loves the thing.

No doubt the fair fascists will be in force.

I would have no problem dumping the whole operation in the Marianas trench.

However, my recent scrape with a pair of lung clots might get me out of it. A very high price to pay.

No driving for a week. I don’t feel like it anyway. A little walking is enough for now.

Many years ago, a former employer did some events at the fair. I went to do my bit and waved the badge to go in. All well and good. Woe to me, I went in the wrong tent. This crazy little old lady started yelling at me and to get out. You’d think I’d walked in on some top-secret meeting. It was full of farm stuff.

Sounds like they would have thrown the book at you if you’d stayed.

Which one? The main library at Broadway and West 14th Ave. or one of the local neighborhood libraries? Regards the main location; I might consider wearing a mask at that place even if there were no COVID-19s to worry about. Filthy downtown bums with germs all over that place.

It’s one door over from the police station.
