Move
It’s because you aren’t homeless. ‘Round here, the homeless occupy the libraries because just about everyone else either can’t read, doesn’t want to read, or can just download a book.
My public library only suggests doesn’t insist
Maybe I should post a vanity...
*vanity* I drank beer, listened to classic rock on the radio,
and cooked some hotdogs down at my firepit today
Have to wear them when going to the Veterans Administration as well. Nobody seems to notice it fails to cover my nose.
Your library is open on Sunday?
She may have saved your life- without that mask you could have potentially been exposed to something with only a 98.5% survivability rate!
I think there is going to be a cleansing.
I’m not sure if the Good Guys or the Bad Guys are going to be purged. But some group is going to be purged.
And my big fear is that the Good Guys (that’s us) are so darn good that the thought of purging the Bad Guys (who are truly evil) is just unacceptable. And that means we lose. Because if we don’t purge them, they sure as hell will purge us. And they’ll enjoy it.
I think we need to gird our loins.
tell her you identify as wearing a mask....or better, get one of those fish net looking masks or a jason mask.
wonder if screaming “discrimination” would help in these situations...
Ha, I worked at the DPL in the 70s/80s. It wasn’t the job for me though I was good at my job. I proudly refused to join the union and that’s when things went really bad. Some of my coworkers were nice folks and I probably made some of their jobs harder because I was in a band at the same time.
Anyway, two things: 1) Downtown Denver has always been a magnet for homeless and bums. The book “On The Road” I probably read for the first time in 5th grade and read more than a dozen times. I’m not necessarily proud of this - just providing evidence. And 2) Denver has always been an organized crime sh1th0le and I can back this with so many personal anecdotes. I should have moved away from here long ago. Some of the crime families are more entrenched here than the ones in the East. It might be worth fighting for but that’s someone else’s fight; I just want to get out. (I don’t live in Denver currently but pretty much all of Colorado sucks.)
A fat, young chick chased me through the lobby of the Cleveland Clinic. I was about 30 feet from the door when she screamed “Ma’am ma’am, where’s your mask?”
As I kept walking toward the door, I told her that I was leaving. One would have thought she could have figured that out.
She continued screaming at me, “We noticed you weren’t wearing a mask. You must wear a mask at all times in the building.” (Funny, it didn’t bother my cardiologist.)
I told her COVID was the least of her worries...that being fat was much more of a health hazard.
She didn’t appreciate my words of wisdom. Fatsos never do.
Absolutely. The petty bureaucrats thrived under Hitler and Stalin.
Our entire state is mandated, I only put them on when asked by an employee but make sure to ask if they know they don’t work.
When I say I'm a regular there, I'm saying that I go there at least once a week. And when I say inadequate, it's based on the fact that more and more of the space is given over to videos such as movies, games and music. Because fewer and fewer people actually read books anymore! Unless they are by Stephen King, that Koontz guy, and John Grisham - who wrote pretty much the same legal thriller at least 25 times now along with some schlocky book about Christmas.
But I digress.
But I reply because I had the same experience as you a few months ago when the "mask mandate" suddenly, and for no good reason, became a thing in Newtown once again.
I was oblivious to this because I don't pay much attention to local news and was not aware a mask mandate was back in place. So I enter the library through the front door (most people enter it from the back) and spend about an hour perusing the shelves to get my books with no harassment whatsoever. I then go to the self-checkout area where you scan your card and then scan your books for check-out.
As I'm doing this, I get the shrill woman behind the desk saying "Sir, sir, sir" with her finger wagging..."Facemasks are now required in the library".
Mind you, this is after an hour of walking through the shelves and picking out my books and being totally unmolested.
So I just gather up my books, give her a smile and tell her to have a nice day.
Nothing ever came of it. I've been back there a good number of times since and nobody ever challenged me again.
Sorry to hear you actually got kicked out. The public library is one of the few things left to us that are actually worth the tax dollars we pay.
I’ve collected over 7000 free books from Amazon kindle.
The Freebooksy.com email list is great. Book Barbarian has a few daily free books.
And then I’ve bought a few thousand more from freeebook.com and Encore book warehouse.
I will probably never read but a small fraction of them.
Keep up the good work, Dynachrome!
You forgot the obligatory coughing fit before asking if she was sure a mask was needed. Gets them every time.
My optometrist has gone over the edge on masks.
If she were not so good at her job and her office having the top of the line technology....and my eyes needing the best, I would find another OD. It’s gotten creepy. I suspect, based on her comments, that she is never going to let go of the mask thing.
