Updated on 02/25/2022 438 Comments Out of curiosity I searched for maps that may reveal nuclear targets in the United States, and I’ve posted them here for your interest.
(See below for more maps)
The nuclear targets map shown above (source file) is one that I put together based on a number of factors — looking at other maps and data including military installations, nuclear weapons storage and silo locations, bases, cities, etc..
No doubt I’ve missed a number of them, as well as other probable strategic locations. It’s simply presented as ‘food for thought’.
Note: The three larger appearing target areas shown within Montana, North Dakota, and the corner of (Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado) represent known ICBM silos and nuke storage.
Note: It may seem like there are more ‘red dots’ on the map than any probable nuclear attack, but believe it or not, there could potentially be more – given the many thousands of nuclear weapons in Russia (for example).
Nuclear-Exchange Targets Map on the USA
(Update) I found the following nuclear targets map in the public domain from Martin Vargic of halcyonmaps.com who makes info-graphics and various maps. Targets are based on data from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wikipedia. Interestingly, fallout direction is also shown. It’s based on general prevailing wind direction. Although obviously wind direction could be different, depending on ‘today’s weather’.
NOT my blog.
A good thing Canada is Safe.
I know where I will be packing up the truck and heading toward.
There is no threat level increase. Putin won’t incinerate his grandchildren and hand a depopulated and irradiated Russia to China because he can’t annex Ukraine.
I’ll be staying right where I am.
Why anyone would want to waste an expense bomb on a wasteland like Detroit, I’ll never know.
MIRV attacks will cover a lot of ground, but those damage zones look a tad exaggerated.
EXPENSIVE bomb..
That’s what a sane man would do. Are you SURE he is sane?
Putin would be assuming room temperature had he pulled this stunt on DJT’s watch. Threatening to launch 500 nukes would have been signing his own death warrant, or living the remainder of his life in an underground bunker (and even then justice would get to Putin eventually).
[Scariest eight minutes ever filmed. Too realistic.]
Detroit? Why, rapid urban redevelopment, of course.
How about a nice game of chess?
Long ago I worked in a GM parts factory that was a tertiary target.
Map is very old and out of date. There isn’t a big nasty red splotch at Kings Bay, GA, home of the Navy’s East Coast SSBN base.
They drop a short line on NORAD and I am toast.
I guess it all depends. I think it is not even close to being accurate.
For example I read once that Nearly one-quarter of America’s 9,962 nuclear weapons are now assigned to the Bangor submarine base on Hood Canal, 20 air miles northwest of downtown Seattle.
I would have expected the blast zone in that area to be much larger.
And in the PNW some of the targets date from when I was a kid (I’m almost 70).
Lived and worked on a SAC/ACC base that had bombers “cocked” on the Alert Pad. I didn’t care then, don’t really care now! ;)
Just do your best every day. Okay, maybe not on Saturday. But on every other day, do your best.
