That response propelled him him to the Lt. Governorship, and quite possibly the Governorship down the road.

One, He made a lot of very solid good points.

But love my ARs, but this argument that they aren’t military grade is a poor one. The difference between a semi and full auto AR is at best, academic. A smart person would rather the bad guy HAVE a full auto rather than a semi.
And you would most assuredly not be foolish to take a semi AR to war with it’s “22 caliber bullets”.
The Marines want you using semi auto because you get -way- more hits.

If a madman bursts into your meeting room with an AR, a semi would be more deadly.

In any case this is a dog of an argument. It’s trying to pretend that somehow a full auto is way more devastating than a semi.
In full priggery, we use enthusiast jargon to “prove” that a semi-AR is not an “assault rifle”. We call the MSRs (modern sporting rifles), etc. This accomplishes exactly nothing.

Assault rifle bans don’t happen because they mistakenly think it’s a machine gun. They want whatever, that thing, that can kill 20 people in a short minute banned.

No amount of sophistry or gun store priggery over nomenclature will win for us. It’s the same when they say they want to ban 30 round clips. We smugly ask if they have an odd variant of the Garand and think we win.
While we spike the ball, they draft the hi-cap mag ban.

Don’t fall for this lame mentality that basically argues they are not nearly as dangerous as a military version.
We have to win on the basic right to self defense in a society that is self destructing and saddled with an increasingly authoritarian government.

For one more thing, the National Service rifle match at Camp Perry requires you to use rifles only capable of semi-auto. And they do indeed shoot 22 caliber projectiles.

There was a video out there years ago of a guy at a gun range showing how to take a regular old mini-14 and by adding a pistol grip and a folding stock, rendered the gun California Non-Compliant. It was a funny video... kind of scary too because it absolutely showed the ignorance of those who are scared of the black guns. I haven’t been able to find it...

Cops knew he was a troubled soul. No good comes from arming the deranged like that. Time for some common sense.
It doesn’t matter what the cops “know.”

1. We have this idiotic process of sealing juvenile records. This kid could have stolen 100 cars, set a dozen houses on fire, and tortured animals every day of his life as a minor ... but a background check conducted on his 18th birthday would show that he’s a law abiding citizen.

2. HIPAA confidentiality laws prevent the disclosure of mental health records to the police.

In other words ... The combination of #1 and #2 means that the background check process for a firearms permit won’t even reveal anything about the people who should never own a firearm.

Excellent points all .... and they won’t prosecute them anyway for crimes, so what else does it matter what they do? they just offend, get loose, re-offend and keep doing it until this is what we get.

Our inalienable right to keep and bear arms includes military grade rifles anyway. It also includes warships. The U.S. Navy licensed civilian ships with armaments to use in the Revolutionary War.

https://www.history.com/news/american-privateers-revolutionary-war-private-navy

This also means aircraft; A-10s, F-22s, B-1s, etc.

In Texas, youth felonies get sealed at age 19. The wayword yutes have to go a whole year as an adult staying on the straight and narrow for the yute felony to go bye bye.

“The Republicans need to run to the Cameras - and tell the American people that Joe Biden’s own son committed a Felony by lying on a Federal Gun Application - and nothing was done!”

This!

The lawless party is always about passing more laws and spending more money. But they don’t believe in keeping the laws already on the books.

The problem is not rooted in his possession of a weapon, nor in the weapon he possessed. Nothing I have read thus far would indicate derangement or in someway disqualify his purchase or possession.

Now a FFL may correct me on the Background Form...but
FLK-Funny Looking Kid and NQR-Not Quite Right are not disqualifiers.

If his murders were not known - what removes his right to bear arms?

Today on “The Five” Jesse Waters made the same point when he noted Biden only condemns guns and the police. Never the criminal. Perhaps he has seen this excellent video.

Appreciate your reasoned response.

Sealing juvenile records is not automatic. Maybe it’s not a crime to scream at your mom in front of the cops.. but its a red flag. Should have been noted in the NICS, which already has a partial list of people mentally incompetent or domestically violent. Any cop who witnesses unstable behavior could document it with a body cam could send a report. How many times a day do cops think to themselves, “that guy should not own firearms.”

Laws need to change. If that includes HIPPA laws, so be it. If conservative judges strike down common sense laws, they can. Plenty of restrictions are in place to prevent certain people from owning guns. The restrictions need to expand.

Republicans need to stop trying to justify the silly notion that everyone, no matter how evil/stupid/deranged gets to own a gun capable of this level of carnage and worse. Maybe a start is mandatory training for those under a certain age.

That evil POS walked into a gun store and presumably bought body armor, multiple high cap magazines and a gun and shot up a school a few days later. Republican leaders calls for “love” isn’t going to cut it. Just stupid to allow a school age kid to buy or possess body armor.

These shootings are why a large percentage of the population will never vote Republican, no matter how bad the Democrats run things.

Its more than time for bi-partisan solutions. Maybe start with banning kids with a juvenile crime record, a history of school problems, substance abuse, mental retardation, disability due to mental health problems that could be considered unsafe.

These tragedies come around every few months. This one is worse than most— but the next one could be tomorrow and twice as bad. There is really no limit to the carnage one mentally disturbed person can do with modern “sport” rifles.

Yes, I’m a fiscal conservative from CA. But I want the GOP to grow— not be sucked into defending the “right” of every lunatic with a not fully-developed brain to buy weapons and shoot up schools. Republicans need to figure this out.

he does have a point based on the fact that the left has made damn sure we the people have a realy hard time gettign actual ‘military grade guns’

all guns are dangerous- that isn’t the issue- the issue is that htwe left are trying to equate civilian rifles with what they deem ot be ‘military grade’ rifles- because to the general public, that makes them sound scarier because ‘military people are well trained and should be the only ones who are allowed guns with higher capacity magazines and full auto’- to average citizen doesn’t understand the difference- but another fact is that ‘military grade guns’ have selective fire- which fires in semi- auto or burst fire mode- and each has their use- if a gang breaks into a room in multiple different positions— the person in the room woudl want full auto- not semi- it just depends o n the situation-

but you are right- the argument isn’t over what type guns law abiding citizens should own- it should be about how we are going to secure our schools and other current ‘gun free zones’

like hte fella said, “Every time there is a shooting, the left ALWAYS come after law abiding citizens who haven’t hurt anyone and never would” unless of course the situation called for self defense. The solution is not to attack lawful gun owners and make them more vulnerable to criminals (soem of whjich actually do have automatic weapons’ but rather to secure areas that are vulnerable-
