The far left has always claimed to be for "democracy," even when what they wanted was far from what a majority of the people wanted.

But the main reason they don't want to use "republic" in a positive sense, may be because they want people to be scared of "MAGA Republicans."

The #1 definition of Democracy is to refer to a Democratically elected Republic.

Language changes over time. That's what Democracy means now. The term "True Democracy" refers to one person one vote on every issue and is distinguished from "Democracy".

You're fighting a losing battle. You're failing to recognize reality as it is now. And you're wasting your time.

> ... if we ever want to be in the majority...

A "majority" is only meaningful in the context of a Democracy, where all people vote, and the "majority" wins.

"Majority" has little or no relevance in a Republic. An enlightened, vocal, and active "Minority" can elect representatives and run the Republic, better than politicians elected by 50+% of the general populace.

Yes, that's an "elitist" point of view. So what. That's what the Founders had in mind, and it works better than any other known setup.

Nope. Their misnomer is deliberate and as clear as crystal. What I find to be infuriating is that there are “Republican” members of Congress that have bought into this bastardization of the language and openly refer to our system of Government as a “democracy” rather than a Constitutional Republic. The Communists among us are happy with this.

"Democracy" as it is being used by Democrats is a euphemism for "Woke World."

I don't think they are aware of this though because they are, as a group (make that cult), in some kind of hypnotic trance that seems to have developed by living in a Marxist echo chamber.

Another word for their cult is "mass formation."

I agree 100%

It also posses me off when democrats refer to themselves as ‘the democratic party’

They are the democrat party, and there is no democracy allowed except for when saying ‘we must save our democracy’

Not really.

A "majority" in the House and Senate determines who runs the body, assigns committee membership, and who chairs them.

Never heard of "majority party"?

Democracy - the people directly decide what to do Republic - the people select a group of elites who decide what to do

I remember the former being referred to as "direct democracy", which obviously is impractical nowadays. But "democracy" as a broad term can be used to refer to any form of government in which authority comes from the citizens. So that could be a Republic, a parliamentary democracy, or even a direct democracy.

DEMOCRACY is 3 wolves and 2 sheep deciding what’s for dinner!

Have you ever voted in a statewide election? I'll bet Republicans in California voting for governor feel just like the two sheep.

How about a congressional election?

Congratulations! You participated in Democracy!

You are correct. I was referring to a legislative and electoral college majority, neither of which requires a popular vote majority.

Yes, if the UK can be a monarchy and a democracy, we ought to admit that we can be a republic and a democracy. But of course, there are real questions about just how democratic either country or any country really is. “Pluralism” is another term used, indicating that there are different competing groups and power blocs, rather than one public and one will of the people.

It’s not the word “democracy” that is the operative term, it’s the use of “OUR Democracy” that is chilling.

Our democracy is what we, the liberal lunatic left tell you loser conservatives it is. Our is reserved to the use of the left and is not inclusive of any others.

The article provides no answer to its own question. A combination of ignorance and malice results in this bastardization of language. What I wonder is why no one seems to call them out on it other than the choir of peons to which I belong.

That's a different situation entirely. In Congress there are a determined number of members, and they all vote. It's not the case that less than half of Congress votes on things.

But in a popular election, typically less than half of eligible voters bother to vote, and as a result, the "winner" typically gets a small fraction of the overall population, often 30% or even less.

In that case, a "Minority" of the population will win an election if most of them get off their duffs and vote. So, don't think "Majority/Minority". Think "More/Less".

How many votes were cast in the last few elections, as a percentage of the total eligible population?

Unfortunately, there are a couple here on FR that will swear on their mother’s grave (and fight about it) that there is ‘democracy’ somewhere in there...
