Breathing Fuels Global Warming [semi-satire]

A study from the United Kingdom Center for Ecology and Hydrology found that every human exhales nitrous oxide and 31% exhale methane. Those who did not exhale methane in their breath probably released the gas via burping and flatulence. Since both vegetarians' and meat-eaters' emissions are similar in magnitude, future diet changes are unlikely to offset these environmental pollutants.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Tom Carper (D-Del) called these findings "disturbing. Every breath we take contributes to the degradation of our environment. We must do everything in our power to reduce our deleterious impact."

The measures Carper suggested include "increasing the number of abortions, making euthanasia easier, and discouraging unnecessary physical activity. Every baby nipped in the bud before birth eliminates adding another person to the mass of people exhaling pollutants. Loosening the restrictions on abortion would help in this regard. Likewise, encouraging more people to choose euthanasia over the continuation of added decades of useless life would be both an efficient and merciful means of eliminating the surplus population."

"Finally, for those not wanting to take these more effective options we could discourage extraneous physical activity," Carper added. "The volume of exhaled pollutants emitted during athletic events, in gyms, jogging, or walking exceeds that of persons satisfied to sit and watch TV. The stay-at-home edicts used during the pandemic could be re-initiated as an environmental emergency measure. It would be most expeditious if all of these options could be put in place as regulations by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)."

In related news, the number of "excess" deaths among young Americans that began during the pandemic has continued through 2023. Food and Drug Administration commissioner Robert Califf called the new trend of lower life expectancy "catastrophic. COVID-19 deaths dropped 84% from the first three quarters of 2021 to the same period in 2023. The bulk of these excess deaths are from cardiac mortality and stroke." Ironically, cardiac disease and stroke are notable adverse effects of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

I have joked that a teacher should send home a paper, requesting that each house member hold their breath for 30 seconds each day, to save the planet.

And I would expect many to comply.

Now they are catching up with me.

The people are going to kill the planet just by being people. Well, I guess we all need to kill ourselves. But what about all the animals? They breathe too. I guess we need to wipe them out first, and then ourselves.
