If this is true, it is rather disappointing. It shows that President Trump is not pro-life for humane reasons, but more for political ones. If I truly value God’s creation and am against the taking of unborn life, that would be what I want in my running mate as well.
This is not unexpected . Look back to 2016 Cruz vs.Trump debates in 2016.
The pro lifers sunk 2022 when women came out in droves to vote against Republicans. The pro life movement got R vs W overturned. Trump has already done enough. The rest is up to the states. There are far bigger issues facing the country such as a global invasion through the southern border.
“It shows that President Trump is not pro-life for humane reasons, but more for political ones.”
I strongly disagree. He IS pro-life for humane reasons - but he realizes that in order for a Presidential candidate to save the lives of millions of unborn babies - that candidate must WIN the election.
Please allow President Trump to finesse this difficult political third rail issue as he sees fit. You will definitely have a more pro-life President and save more babies if Trump wins than if he loses.
It’s too bad so called conservatives are willing to cave on the pro-life position. We cannot sacrifice babies on the altar or politics. By caving on this issue, that is playing right into the democrats hands and giving them what they want.
His stand on abortion is why we voted for him in 2016.
“If this is true, it is rather disappointing. It shows that President Trump is not pro-life for humane reasons, but more for political ones.”
Not necessarily. It may just be smart tactics. First off, as President, there’s very little he can do unilaterally on this issue. He’s already done the most important thing a president can do on abortion at the federal level - place conservatives on the Supreme Court who will give the issue back to the states.
De-federalizing abortion is the best favor Trump could have done for the pro-life movement. Re-federalizing the issue through Congressional legislation may be great when you have a conservative majority in Congress, but it will come back to bite you if/when a more liberal Congress comes to power.
What would you rather have? Thirty or so solidly conservative states with strong pro-life legislation that is likely to remain on the books for the foreseeable future, or abortion bans in all the states, going back and forth with guaranteed right to an abortion in all states, every 8 years or so?
