First Amendment Hamstrings Government [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 24 March 2024 | John Semmens

This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Murthy v. Missouri. This case focuses on whether govt collusion with social media platforms to censor online speech violates the First Amendment.

Justice Samuel Alito questioned "whether it is legal for the US government and big tech to collude to censor speech they don't agree with. I think saying that Facebook and the Federal government should be partners contradicts the words and intent of the First Amendment."

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson disagreed. "My biggest concern is that the First Amendment hamstrings the government in significant ways at the most important times. The enemies of democracy hide behind a claim of freedom of speech in order to spread lies and misinformation. The Constitution requires the government to promote the general welfare. Surely, this includes shielding the people from false and dangerous ideas."

the First Amendment hamstrings the government That's the point of the bill of rights. You"d think a Supreme Court justice would know that. Apparently the new affirmative action hire doesn't.

Hamstrings are only the beginning. The Bill of Rights pulls the government’s groin.

This post is satire; she didn’t actually say that, but you know it’s what she’s thinking. That makes it semi-satire and John Semmens is a master at that to the level where it reads and sounds just like a real news report.

The Founders of this nation wrote the Constitution worded to protect citizens from an oppressive government - something they knew about first hand.

Actually, she did say that the First Amendment hamstrings the government.

I just fleshed out her reasoning a bit.

I’ve said this before. You can’t effectively use sarcasm on these people because when you’re being sarcastic and you think that you’ve lampooned them in all seriousness they go ahead and do the very thing you’re considering to be sarcasm ( or even worse). I think there is no lower bound for Democrat behavior, but at least you’re trying to show what idiots the are.

As Will Rogers said, “ I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.”
