The size of the bridge suggests technical know-how and a large, skilled workforce. It also indicates the area was more economically and politically advanced than previously assumed.

Sad they're always putting down the skills of past generations.

I'm having a hard time believing this

Flisa Bru Hedemark - Norway, completed 2002 using modern techniques and laminated wood - the 233' main span is still less than half that.
