A Los Angeles Superior Court official has confirmed to The Showbuzz that a wrongful death suit has been filed against singer Brandy Norwood by the parents of a woman who died in a car crash involving the singer last month.

The parents of Awatef Aboudihaj are claiming both compensatory and punitive damages in the amount of $50 million.

The California Highway Patrol recommended Monday that the actress-singer, who goes by her first name professionally, be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the freeway crash that killed Aboudihaj last month, a city attorney's spokesman said.

Cars don't kill people - celebrities do.

Brandy Faces $50 Million Civil Suit

There goes everything she's worked for since the mid 90s. I don't know how she could possibly win this one.

Matthew Broderick probably saw this story and realized how easy he got off. The big difference in this case is the enormity of witnesses. In Broderick's accident in which two people died, there were zero witnesses.

SUV's do kill though. I have seen hundreds of articles which say so.

I like Brandy- my kids LOVED her in 'Cinderalla' (a really great film)

I think she screwed up- but $50 mil... kinda ridiculous for an 'accident'. She wasn't drunk, drugged, speeding, or anything other than distracted and caused an accident. If she was then I could see punitive damages (still not $50mil).

She made a mistake, and someone lost their life. Accidents happen. But I see lawholes - i mean lawyers drooling over deep pockets.

It's a tragic accident and it is too bad for all parties involved.

I thought I saw somewhere where that she was not on the cell phone either. She just did not realize that the traffic in front of her had slowed down.

"parents of a woman."

Tough case for parents to make a financial loss for the loss of a child. Also it was an accident from what I have read.

If any "normal person" did a rear end accident (that happen daily) they are not exposed to 50 million dollar lawsuits.

If she's guilty she should do serious jail time. However,*nobody's* life is worth 50 million.NOBODY's! The family of the dead person clearly thinks they've won the lottery here.

I agree that her insurance should pay the family for her negligence.

This suit was filed by the dead woman's parents. I am disturbed that they rushed in to file before their son-in-law could. While the parents are certainly grieving the loss of their daughter, the real loss is being borne by her three minor children, and her husband. If they were a two income family, he may be unable to pay the mortgage and put food on the table right now.

I think the family should get compensatory damages not punitive damages.

This is kind of scary. An accident could bankrupt any one of us at any time.

Sounds to me like they're greeding rather than grieving.
