Beef production is bad for the planet(Your beef is next on the liberal hit list)
Daily Globe ^ | June 23,2008 | Dean Koch

Dodge City —

Earlier this month, more than a hundred thousand South Koreans demonstrated against newly elected president Lee Myung-bak as his entire cabinet offered to resign. At the root of this massive protest was not a declaration of war against North Korea, a boycott of the Chinese summer Olympics, or even escalating oil prices. It was a treaty allowing U.S. beef imports. Beef production accounts for more greenhouse gas emissions than automobiles. Its insatiable demand for feed grains has raised world food prices to levels beyond the reach of the world’s hungry and the relief agencies that support them. Creation of beef pastures is the key cause of worldwide deforestation, including the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. A beef-based diet requires more than 20 times as much land and water as a plant-based diet with equivalent amounts of calories and protein. Nutritionally, beef offers protein, iron, and some B vitamins, but no fiber, carbohydrates, nor most vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, it is replete with saturated fat, cholesterol, pesticides, and pathogens, including occasionally, the prions of “mad cow” disease. We should have a hundred thousand demonstrators marching on Washington to protest taxpayer subsidies to the U.S. beef industry. In the meantime, each one of us can demonstrate our own outrage with beef production on our next trip to the supermarket by selecting from the rich variety of soy-and-plant-based meat alternatives in the frozen foods and produce sections.

Just put a tax on it.
That should fix it.

I wonder if the guy who wrote this, if serious, is really in Dodge City, or has even ever been to Dodge City?? It’s not the place I’d pick to complain about beef.

I also wonder if someone who complains about how much land it takes to raise cattle has ever spent any time in areas where lots of cattle are raised. Some, though of course not all, ranch land really isn’t suitable for much of anything else.

I think I’ll have a steak for supper tonight.

Dean Koch does live in Dodge if I remember correctly, and that is one of those things that got me on that. Beef is Dodge City’s first and prime business above all, take beef away you not only kill Dodge City but also most of Southwestern Kansas the Oklahoma Panhandle and the Texas Panhandle. Anyways its kind of weird reading a Kansan with the last name Koch sound like a raving loony leftist as most of them I have known are pretty conservative people, maybe he was kicked out of the family.

10’ diameter??

I don't know that I have ever seen one under 30' and some up to several hundred feet in diameter. In farm ground they still hold water after a rain and having been farmed over for 50 plus years.

Admittedly, the ones I’ve seen were on relatively small pastures.

Costs a lot of money to try to fence in a large area to contain bison.

Any way we look at it, bison are hard on the neighborhood. Doesn’t mean that they’re not tasty, just means that they’re not exactly a meek “environmentally friendly” animal.

However, I would love to see a herd of bison big enough that we could try to induce a bunch of environmentalists to try to milk some bison females. That, I would pay to watch. ;-)

I was referring to the remnants from the days of the free roaming herds. The smaller wallows I've seen are in western Kansas and the largest I have seen are southwest of Canyon TX. And I have not been everywhere ;^)

I love a Q'd primal but unless tallow is added the burgers are kinda dry.

Want to get up a game of "Slap the Bull"?? hahaha

Hell, I’m pure evil then.. Big ol briquette grill, starter fluid... giant slabs of BEEF cooking away...

Every time you grill a steak, God kills a tree in the Amazon forest. Or something.

I swear, vegetarians are stupider, most stupidest, simply because they don't eat enough beef.

A human can survive infinitely on beef alone. Protiens and fats. It's all a body needs. But a body cannot survive without these two things. What is the most unimportant part of our diet? Vegetables. Vegetarians try to forgo the most important dietary ingredients, with detrimental effect, mostly detrimental.

Interesting, there is more hormone activity in one human birth control pill (same hormone) than one ton of beef. Actually, the estrogenic activity is higher in one head of cabbage than an entire beef carcass. Enjoy you cole slaw!

yes, but rBGH (bovine growth hormone) is not a good hormone for humans to be consuming. Kids are entering puberty earlier, for example, than in times past partly because of the vast amount of hormones in meat and milk.

Plus, it causes sickness in the cows because of over production of milk, which requires large doses of antibiotics, which also find their way into meat and milk

did you sign up just to defend hormone supplements?

by the way, rGBH is not estrogen.
it is bovine growth hormone, produced in the pituary glands of cattle, but given in large dosages like anabolic steroids.

and if these supplements were so safe, why are they banned in Canada, Japan, Australia and the European Union?

Folks, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye...

or, in this case, until these control freak bastards get into positions of power where they can use the legal use of deadly force (gov’t) to impose their will on the rest of us.

Make no mistake, they

INTEND TO CONTROL WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO EAT.
