Now are rough times. For all of us.

This is where we stand:

Liechtenstein/Saudi Arabia: Business as usual, minor sources of irritation

Venuzuela: INRI - IN a moRon CommunIst we trust, that'll do the trick!

Germany/Switzerland/Austria: High tax, some captial, medium sized car, can't afford fuel, decent house, nothing left of our former empires.

USA: Moderate tax, nice eating out, nice car, heavy debt, some capital, some fuel, no home.

Japan: Small tax, microscopic car, no future

Italy, Spain: Heavy tax, small car + vespas, Fascist tradition, government debt, Catholicism, nice food

Norway: Heavy tax, small car, dried cod (lutefisk), luxury, everyone owes us money

Iceland: Heavy taxes, massive help from everyone, no population

China: Lots of people, lots of people, lots of GDP growth, no Internet freedom, a little of private consumption, no daughters

Sweden + Denmark: Incredible taxation, incredible women, stylish nanny state

Holland: free cannabis, no job, but get along well anyway by exporting vegetables and trying to defeat Germany in soccer

Cuba: Work all day, free propaganda, why don't the Russians aid us anymore?

North Korea: free starvation but daily empty threats against South Korea

India: open mind, no food, 1,2 billion people, nuclear missiles

Iran: open mouth, 0.06 billion people, no nuclear missles (yet)

Russia: Free shut up for everobody, maybe Communism wasn't all that bad?

Australia: Slowly discovering sport protection

The UK: Prince Charles is a jolly good chap, God bless polo, we're all most charming, tingely-dingely-holly ho and we're all in for tea, aren't we.

Greece: Difficult language, old culture

Japan: Difficult food, Engrish language

“India: open mind, no food..............”

India’s food grain production at record high: RBI
http://www.commodityonline.com/news/topstory/newsdetails.php?id=7743

“the total foodgrains production is slated to reach an all-time high at 227.3 million tonnes, recording an increase of 4.6 per cent over the previous year (217.3 million tonnes). The production during 2007-08 would exceed the target set earlier (221.5 million tonnes) by 5.8 million tonnes.”

Get it right next time.

“China: Lots of people, lots of people, lots of GDP growth, no Internet freedom, a little of private consumption, no daughters “

Problem with your one line analysis is that they are not only just plain wrong but they just dont give the full picture. Chinese Internet boom is unparalleled and notwithstanding their selective censorship of anti- Chinese literature which is actually enforced by American private companies, sometime in the coming future the number of Chinese sites on the Internet will actually outnumber that of the US. Chinese private consumption is up at 40% (but still below the world average of 60%) is hardly a worry in a country where the middle class population is more the 80 million strong. On the brighter side their export industry is massive and their government isnt as shit broke as the US.

“No daughter”...... a bit of an overstatement, inconsequential other then just being a source of inconvenience for some young men.

As for Russia, given the strong reserve position of the economy, and action taken quickly by the Russian government inject liquidity into the economy they are much better off in this crisis, plus they are actually bailing out Iceland.
