Ecstasy 'no more dangerous than horse riding'

Taking ecstasy is no more dangerous than riding a horse, according to the head of the Government's drug advisory body.

Writing in an academic journal, Professor David Nutt said taking ecstasy was no worse than the risks of "equasy", a term he invented to describe people's addiction to horse-riding.

Prof Nutt is the chairman of the Home Office's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs which next week is likely to say that ecstasy should be downgraded to a Class B drug.

Campaigners last night called for him to resign, suggesting that he was on a "personal crusade" to decriminalise the drug.

Ecstasy sucks the serotonin out of your brain from what I’ve read and had confirmed by people who’ve actually used it.

Is the good Professor Nutt opposed to horseback riding? I can’t quite tell.

Forgot to add....

Apparently ecstasy is fun, fun, fun until the big crash and then big time anxiety and depression for 24 hours or so.

So they say.

Sustained use is generally where the damage is done ... lasting or even irreversable mood disorders and depression. People are cooking this crap up themselves, and you never know what you’re ingesting, either. One time experimentation is unlikely to do lasting harm, but it has happened, due to typically elevated heart rate and body temperature.

Heh. I think you’re on to something.

Huxley went out through his doors, I’m pretty certain today’s Soma wouldn’t really have interested him except as an odd social phenomena.

No suprises. It's the Brits again.

Maybe they ought to try feeding Exstasy to all the Muzzies in London and see if that makes them any happier with their adopted country.

I ran into some ecstasy whackadoodle while trekking in Nepal.

He was a chem student at RPI or SUNY as I recall, and he was very excited about making ecstasy in his lab because (according to him) it was (a) very easy for a Chem 301 student to manufacture properly, and (b) it was hugely profitable.

Who knows, you meet some real (harmless) whackos while trekking in foreign countries.

btw, I haven’t used X nor do drugs thought I do like how when I rx’d vicodin when i had surgery it helped me sleep! My point is that people tend to abuse drugs and if used in moderation, it wouldn’t be as dangerous as we see now. But, us americans don’t like to do things in moderation.

“Nepal is crawling with Western freaks - maybe as high a capita as NYC or SF.”

I used to pass out imodium to the hippies in the Nepal airport departure lounge who didn’t have enough sense to not eat food bought from street vendors.
