The movie does not make internal logic.

The CSA controlls not only the USA but Canada and Mexico as well.

The CSA is being brought to its knees economically by a European embargo?

Yeah right. Among other stupid facts about this alternate future.

As a person that loves a good alternative history story, I found that movie to be so poorly thought out that I had to force myself through each agonizing minute of it hoping for something that could make it at least entertaining.

I mean, come on! the Northern states just up and decide to join the Confederacy, and that almost complete annexation of the whole of the western hemisphere? Not to mention slavery magically running into the 21st century.

You would get laughed off of an alternative history forum if you presented that.

Another History “According to Us” production

Don't expect to hear on this program, that only 5 percent of the soldiers of the Confederacy owned slaves, and they didn't leave home to die for the protection of someone else right to own slaves, but to fight against what they viewed as an invading army.

Don't expect to hear that the first state to legalize slavery was not in the South.

Don't expect to hear that the slaves ships were built and outfitted in New York.

And don't expect the show to mention Lincoln did not free all the slaves. That the slave States who agreed not to join the confederacy were alooud to keep their slaves.

Yeah. I didn't believe that either.

Regardless of the absurd notion of the South conquering the whole of America in 1865, the flawed movie premise is that, even now, chattel slavery would be on-going. Once again the liberal interpretation of slavery as race-hatred rather than an immoral 19th century agrarian practice. It would have become as unworkable an agricultural or industrial institution by now as is the horse-drawn plow and the steam engine!

I can believe that. I can't agree with the broad general demonizing of Southerners. But those poor guys doing the fighting were not the ones who caused the problem in the first place. The real villains tended to be concentrated in Richmond and wherever there could be money to be made by exploiting less fortunate fellow Southerners, both white and black.

I thought it was stupid.

It worked from the supposition that the Civil War was only about slavery. It also supposed that had the Civil War hadn’t been fought, that slavery would still exist. And, that somehow, the Confederacy was imperialistic, and would have taken over the entire North American continent.

I don’t buy any of these ultra simplistic, poorly thought out concepts. I like alternative history, but this was just dumb.

“A rich man’s war and a poor man’s fight” is what they called it at the time.

Amen to that. In general, the poor man did not want that secession and that war, they just ended up doing the fighting for those rich and powerful who wanted the benefits without doing the fighting and financial sacrificing themselves.

That was fascinating...a bit over the top in some of the commercials, but otherwise mostly believable.

It was an expansionist empire. Not terribly surprising. In fact, if you read a lot of alternate history, it's widely accepted that a real CSA would have absorbed Mexico and the Caribbean.
