When I saw these new pictures, I figured this week's post was easy. Here's two, but there are a lot more on the linked site.
(Kagoshima is the city across the bay from the volcano.)

Sakurajima used to be an island. An eruption in the early 1900s connected it to the mainland. I've been to Kagoshima City a few times. Saw a couple of small eruptions but the winds were good and we didn't get any ash.
