A problem bear that has been frequenting Hillside homes and yards in recent weeks was subjected to shock therapy from police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker's Taser on Thursday morning.
After the small black bear got into a fish fryer on the porch, Parker decided to try a novel approach to deconditioning the animal to people, he said. He armed himself with a backup firearm and a personal Taser C2, which launches a 30-second burst of 100,000 volts, Parker said.
"I thought, 'Here is a wonderful opportunity to give this a test,' " Parker said. He fired out the window and hit the bear in the shoulder from about 15 feet, he said.
"The bear promptly went inverted, with feet in the air, growling and crying at the same time, flailing with his feet," Parker said. "He actually rolled off the porch."
When it was done, the bear sat up, shook his head, seemingly to regain his wits, and then bolted "faster than any bear I've ever seen," he said.

Using cattle prods for humans on bears. Nice!
That’s a real good thing to know.
Can regular citizens have them and why not?
wish there was a video
I’m in Anchorage now - the morning paper said a homeowner later shot and killed the same bear. Evidently, he was a slow learner...
I'll bet he did a couple of other things at the same, nobody mentioned how the cleanup went.
Was the officer white? Call the NAABB quick!

this the manufacturer’s info page...
The last lesson did the trick I expect.
Hey, that’s racist! You should say “African-American bear.”
I’m thinkin the backup weapon was a 12 gauge Mossberg 500 Persuader
I’ll stick with 1911A1 or the model 19.
“.....Evidently he was a slow learner.”
Alas, one less Democrat voter in that great
state.
Sure, you can buy one. They aren’t cheap. Why would a citizen want one? Cops are the ones that have to mitigate the political correctness of the use of force matrix.
Something like that would be my choice, as well, but some folks like to think that “non-lethal” is somehow nicer. I would prefer not to kill anyone, but if I think the situation warrants it, I want that capability without having to change weapons. Look what it got that officer in Oakland, after all. A fraction of a second of making a mistake, and two lives are over. One completely, and one essentially.
Well, since everyone doesn't have one, and they explicitly ban guns from malls and public transportation etc, I'll bet they haven't thought of banning CC tazers. Might just come in handy in an armed criminal situation.
Women who are scared of guns might consider one for rape protection.
I wonder how a raging pitbull would react to one? You could still get the satisfaction of kicking the crap out of it as it lay there whining.
Let's say you were at a polling place and a Black Pantload started attacking voters...(just think of the damage to his dignity...and his shorts)
I’ve been both tased and pepper sprayed. Ill take taser any day.
My point was that private citizen doesn’t need intermediate weapons. If your life is in danger, shoot them dead. BTW, never heard of weapons bans in malls besides maybe “mall policy”.
I want to know if the officer read the bear his rights?
You have the right to be unbearable
You have the right to be bearly there
You have the right to a Saturday Klondike Bear sandwich
You have the right to a BearClaw
You have the right to Bearup
just curious...
