Looking for a fishing tour in Oahu!
TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Travel
KEYWORDS: fishing; hawaii; oahu; travel
My wife and I are heading to Oahu for our first trip to the islands and I am having a hard time finding a reasonable price for a half day trip, $600 seems a little steep. Any suggestions or reccomendations?
First week of Oct. '10, looking for a tuna trip.

Why don’t you google fishing trips in Hawaii? There are dozens of them over there.

Everything in Hawaii is super spendy.
Wife and I spent a week there in March. We visited Pearl Harbor (the Missouri had just received a fresh coat of paint and looked very nice) and, among other things, visited the volcano on the Big Island.
Do not use VIP Tours for anything. Their ticket said round trip from the hotels to Pearl but the return never arrived. We took a $8 city bus back that took two hours...

You think I didn’t try that? I was hoping for a little advice from fellow freeps who live there or have been there.
Search the internet, geez why didn’t I think of that.

Thanks for the tips. “VIP Tours” is the name of the outfit?

Yes.
There are plenty of other tour guide companies and you might coordinate your choice with the companies that work through your hotel.
Wife made this pick via the ‘net. They were to furnish a bus every hour to and from Pearl. The driver went off duty at 1pm and never came back. Fortunately, we were directed to a public bus stop about a quarter mile from the base entry and made our way back OK. The give-a-sh*t factor is pretty low here.
We also took the whale watching tour which included a nice lunch on the boat and flew over to the Big Island and bused over to the volcano park. After looking down inside the crater for half an hour and taking in the views and the SO2 gas, a park ranger stepped out of the gift shop wearing a gas mask (no kidding) and waved us inside, saying the gas levels had exceeded safe level.
We walked the hotel strip and down to an undeveloped area where the canal reaches the seashore. Hundreds of locals were sleeping under palms, others participating in the drug trade. Dozens of people seem to just sit on curbs with little to do. There seems to be a lot of poverty in Hawaii but no one appears hungry. One woman on the beach had three grocery store carts with an infant child in each one. Honolulu police routinely do urinalysis on those arrested for serious crime. More than 45 per cent of those tested show a positive indication for meth.

Sorry for trying to help. It won’t happen again!

While you are there don’t forget to go see Obama’s birthplace and his long form birth certificate, they are a real treasure over there, so valuable they are a secret...

Could pay for the trip and then some! If I found it, that is.
