Just watched the new 'Sherlock' series, Episode 1, lady in Pink. Thought I was tuning into the traditional rendition by Jeremy Hines(?) But founf myself watching an updated series, with Holmes & Watson, in contemporary times. Watson just back from Afghanistan with war wounds.
Wasn't campy or or overacted IMO. The upating weas a nice twist, while still remaining mostly true to the core of the stories. Don't want to give any spoilers, but Holmes "cocaine addiction" has been given a "PC update", and the explanation of his personal life, has as well. BNut it was fun seeing Holmes using a computer, cell phone, and texting.
Looking forward to next weeks episode.
Anyone else have an opinion, good or bad?
Gosh, in this day-and-age, I’m surprised he’s not a transgendered guy lobbying to marry Dr. Watson.
Shoot. Missed it. Will tune in next week. I was on the fence after seeing the trailer but I’ll give it a try!
Only thing on TV right now is Brett Favre throwing touchdown passes for Green Bay.
You can watch the episode online starting tomorrow:

Dexter was on. No Sherlock for me.
Jeremy Brett. The Master.
Some series they do, some they don’t, but you mighr wat to check out the Masterpiece Mystery site, some time after noon tomorrow. To see if the post the whole episode, instead of just clips and previews.

But with some series, you can watch a missed episode up until they air the next.
Amen to that. Jeremy Britt IS Sherlock Holmes. All others are poor substitutes.
Updated his personal life? Have they made him a sodomite...that would fit into current Hollywood trends.
Though props to Peter Cushing for the Hammer version of Hound of the Baskervilles. I thought he did a fantastic job, equal to Basil Rathbone, who is much better-known in the role.
“Come Watson, the needle!”
- Hound of the Baskervilles 1939
Thank you. I knew it didn’t seem right as his last name.
Sorry, it’s a PBS (Propoganda Broadcast Service). Bet it was part of a fundraiser too. They broadcast these programs to entice older folks and conservatives so they can broadcast more Frontline, Bill Moyer’s, NPR hitpieces with donations.
The original Study in Scarlet had Watson returning from the Afghan Campaign (the 1800s one) with a bullet in his shoulder.
“Gosh, in this day-and-age, Im surprised hes not a transgendered guy lobbying to marry Dr. Watson.”
That’s episode 6...
No, he is as he was, but there was the obligatory PC nod to there “not being anything wrong with that...”
