Etna Eruption 2011

A few days into the new year, Sicily's entertaining Mt. Etna kicked off a new eruptive phase. Picture below, and below that, link to video. Click image for BIG full-size.

We went on a Globus trip to Sicily & took an excursion to Mount Etna, which included driving up to 6,500 feet, where we could see the extinct craters & rivers of solidified lava.

Just looked at our photos. It was a Sept. morning & chilly up there....foggy also.

Etna is one of the many places I’ve sailed by and only seen from a distance. So close and yet so far.
