It’s about being responsible for an animal you own. Not that you have to have a license for an animal. You have to have licenses for a whole bunch of things. Pets are your responsibility and you are expected to maintain and keep them according to whatever your communities’ standards are.

You act like this is the worst thing in the world. You must not know about the overbreeding and feral cat problems out there from irresponsible owners. If you’re going to own a living thing you need to provide a certain level of care and part of getting the license is about making sure the thing is vaccinated and sees a damn vet every once in awhile.

Sheesh.

You are right about HSUS no question.

However it’s not the issue in this story. This is about a community determining its own requirements for licensing pets. If the locals don’t want it they can stop it. Or change the board and get it reversed.

Same here. I have two furbabies and they are ‘indoor’. In fact, my vet told me that if they are kept inside, vaccinations are not necessary.

Well golly gee! My wife and I have adopted 15 animals, 8 dogs and seven cats, of which five dogs and five cats are alive and doing quite well, All of them are either spayed or neutered, not because we had to have it done, but because it was the right thing to-do. These animals were all throw aways, we do not have to license them nor get shots for them but we do have them vaccinated if we feel they require it. They all stay in the yard which is large and go for walks on the beach, only one cat does that the rest don't take to the water to well. Not having to license them helps in the cost of food and vets bills. Oh Ya! did I mention that we live in Mexico in Baja Sur opps!
So anyhow we try to get as many as these poor orphan Arnie's that we can homes, you would be surprised at how any of these throw aways get a new home when the kiting/windsurfing season is here and how many go home with their new masters. So there is some things in Mexico that are not regulated to death and their voter I.D. is excellent.

I never realized kittehs were a cost burden on the taxpayer.
I always thought those dastardly goldfish were the usless eaters.

Maybe kitteh needs to submit to taxpayers an itemized bill for disposing of rodents and other public nuisances.

Cat owners, prepare to be boarded by govt inspectors looking for unlicensed criminal kittehs!

I have a license for my dog, Eric, my cat, Eric, and my fish, Eric.

They’re those new-fangled modular licenses, where you just cross out the word “dog” and replace it with “cat” or “fish” or even “hedgehog,” which will be my next pet, Eric the Hedgehog.

How do you get kittehs to do the disposal? Mine used to leave them on kitchendoor mat for me to dispose.

Those commies need to herd those cats! They are out of control - a domestic terrorist risk!

Seriously, animal licenses are hardly unusual or abnormal. I am surprised San Diego hadn’t already had this in place being a larger city.

Where’s the constitutional right to own an animal and let it roam all over other people’s property? Do you have a constitutional right to hoard animals and not take care of them and ignore local government health codes and laws and local animal laws? These people can at the local level tell San Diego to stuff it if they don’t want this. I am all for local control. The states (and the people, state and local level) can set their own norms.

And like other people everywhere they can also ignore the law, which many people obviously do. They can also keep their animals indoors and not license them and nobody will ever know they have them. And many people do this to.

What’s abnormal or unusual isn’t the issue. We have slipped very far; what’s normal and usual is no longer what’s good and reasonable.

We have a marxist President who’s claim to power is that he reads a teleprompter in the top percentile. I don’t want what’s normal and usual any more. I want what’s good and reasonable.

They don’t even force you to get licenses for normal pets in Europe. America is supposed to be better than Europe.
