On a very sad note, during our trip to Mississippi, earlier this week, my wife and I had to make a very, very difficult decision. We had to put down our beloved pet, Cashmere, a 12 year old Irish Setter due to an acute kidney failure. She was a beloved companion in our lives, leaving pawprints on our hearts & we are forever changed. Our fond memories of Cashmere provide us with comfort and joy.

I am SO SO sorry to hear about Cashmere. I’ve had to do the same and it is always heartbreaking. I don’t know why, but I’ve always fond comfort in the Twilight Zone episode, The Hunt, when it comes to a lost canine companion.
Best to you and your wife.
P.S. Put me on your home wine and brww list? ; )

A beautiful dog. I’m sure you have countless good memories. Have a cold one or two for her.

I think an Irish Stout or two will be appropriate.

A little shout out to the winemakers out there. Here is my agenda for the weekend:
1) Rack my 2011 pinot gris that has been cold stabilizing in the basement fridge for 3 weeks.
2) Move my new 650L stainless tank into my basement winery.
3) Clean said stainless tank.
4) Rack my barrel of 2012 malbec into the tank now that malolactic is finished, clean the barrel, move the barrel into the barrel room/wine cellar, pump from tank back into the barrel, sulfite, then put to bed for many months.
Will I get it all done? I doubt it!

It’s good to have lofty goals. If I get 1/2 of it done I’ll be happy. No football this weekend to distract me, at least.

So last weekend I siphoned my experimental Pomegranate Mead into secondary. I had a chance to taste it. It was not as sweet as it was when I started it, so the yeast has done a good job so far. Spices that I added came through strong.
I added a cup or so of sugar to re-invigorate the yeast and the airlock bubbled well for four days. Last night I put it into the pump-house which is, this time of year, around 40°F. I figure to leave it there until equinox, then prime it and bottle it.
Question is, should I add new yeast? Stir it first and keep the existing yeast?
Any advice welcomed.

Sorry to hear about your friend and companion. Just remember all the good times you had. That will make the loss easier.
I finished off the last bottle of my hard cider. I'll have to re-think making that stuff again. Too many silly things happen after a glass or two ;)

It was one one of my PET plastic Bottles and I have yet to find the remains of the bottle! Moved every thing to the garage including my swing top bottles!
