American television show, "Washington Spotlight", debating the topic of private telephone wiretapping. Guests are two United States Congressmen: Senator Wayne Morse (Independent, formerly both Republican and Democrat) of Oregon, and Representative Kenneth Keating (Republican) from New York. The ideas of national security and communist infiltration are brought up, of course. This during the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the debate continues today with President Barack Obama, especially after the revelations from Edward Snowden & Glenn Greenwald.

IMHO, all calls going OUT of the country or INTO the country from outside should be allowed to be wiretapped as necessary. Inside the country is another matter that would require a warrant.
Of course the feds would argue that if the calls crossed state lines then they could do it at will............
Snowden tells us the government will do anything it wants...as long as Obama the king says so.
Ask Angela Merkel how she feels about phone taps. You know it had to be at Obama’s command.
Jack Webb had the LAPD tap Julie London’s phone while they were going through their divorce.
I think it should be legal to wiretap the elected officials by common citizens.
