He grabs her arm. She attempts to hit him. He punches her in the face.
Although the surveillance video was released Monday, the incident took place June 24, inside Yiannis nightclub in Tallahassee, Florida.
On June 25, the head football coach at FSU, Jimbo Fisher, announced Johnsons indefinite suspension for a violation of athletic department policy. Fisher later said that Johnson had been dismissed from the team, effective immediately.
The former freshman quarterback is also being charged with battery.
The woman in the video suffered bruising under her left eye, swelling to the left cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose, according to court documents.
The documents say the victim raised her arm to defend herself, and tried to strike Johnson to release his grip. She remained at the bar while Johnson left with others.

Chick can take a punch.
On the surveillance video, it looked as if he had a wandering hand on her from the moment they squeezed up to the bar until she turned around and raised her right fist to begin the confrontation.
I wonder if they were acquaintances prior to this incident?
What a great country we are becoming.
Maybe he punched her and left before getting caught in a trap she set for him, which would have forced him to knaw off his leg to get away...
I see you are in one of your Vendome moods! :) I’m not taking the bait, hon... I know perfectly well you set the line to get me to argue with you!!
go watch the entire video, The girl steps up to the bar and the thug is very aggressively pushing her aside to get in front of her. She confronts him and he grabs her arm and hair. In my opinion she was defending herself.
And I have to admit to being confused, do women want to be treated as women or do they want to be treat like men?
She's clearly the aggressor, as De'Andre tries to make it to the bar, seems he pushes 'the victim' from the back as two other girls leave the bar with their drinks.
Seems Female Privilege didn't work on the brutha?
Where did you find that? All the versions I have seen they are already standing next to each other. How did they get in those positions?
In these kinds of occurrences, context means everything.
If one lays down with dogs one must expect to get up with fleas.
So when is the guy going to be charged with assault?
Thanks a bunch, although I still have a few questions. At one point she turns and talks to him. Her back is to him and it sure looks as if they know each other. Boy I wish there was sound, but I suspect even if there was background music would drown it out.
Based on the longer video I’d have to blame him, but I don’t know if the video is completely convincing of everything that went on. I would REALLY like to know if they knew each other, and were they together before this video picks them up.
Thuckin Fug!
“The woman threw the first punch. This is what we get with todays women, Title IX, and the NOW bunch. They want equality but when they start something they want to then play the woman card.”
You know what: so f’ng what!
If an “elite” athlete, heck any man, cannot take a “punch” from a woman and just calmly walk away, he deserves nothing but contempt. If he reacts and strikes back, he deserves nothing but jail time (or perhaps better, a real beatdown from some real men). Any man can demolish any woman. It is a fact of life. And that is why it is also a fact of life that no man should strike a woman. Period.
What was is that Jim Rome said: “Any man should be able to take a punch in the face.” (Or something like that...) And he is correct.
He was grabbing her and not letting go.
In my opinion he deserved a kick to balls.
He was grabbing her and not letting go.
He deserved that punch — and more.
Just my opinion.
And a real man walks away.
Only mariposas.
Agreed, It would have been better to let this issue play out in court so we get all of the information instead of releasing the video.
