Is Trumps movement fascist rather than conservative?

I am honestly getting a little scared of what I see happening in politics at the moment. Trump seems to be creating a personality cult where his supporters don’t seem to care what they are supporting provided he attacks the people they don’t like. I am starting to feel a little bit like a German citizen in the early 1930’s watching normally rational conservatives start to cultishly follow a strong leader who they thought would fight back and stop the communists.

Seriously if I had to pick a political philosophy for the Trump movement I would say that it is fascism for the following reasons.

1. Trump's support of and past involvement in crony capitalism (such as his support for using the condemnation power of the state to take property for private parties with good government connections).

2. Trump's followers extreme desire for a strong leader and almost mystical belief that he can fix things without caring what his beliefs or idealogy is.

3. Trump's support for a type of nationalism that is starting to push into the overtly rascist and nativist realm.

4. The delight that Trump seems to take in personally demeaning and attempting to destroy anyone who opposes him. And the way that his followers cheer him on in so including supporting him using sexist slurs against Megan Kelly for doing her job as a journalist.

5. Finally, the fact that Trump and his supporter seem to have no concern for the constitution or the separation of powers.

Using your logic, the cult of personality epithet could easily be applied to Cruz. During his TPA flip flop many of his supporters blindly flipped and flopped right along with him regardless of the facts presented to them. It wasn’t pretty to watch here

Or Scott Walker with his immigration flip flops and people here defending him.

I don’t know you, but that’s one big heaping pile of liberal bull squeeze you wrote there.

Or did you copy it from some obscure leftwing blog? Sure reads like it. You even got the buzz words and memes down cold.

“Nativist” is a term coined by liberal “scholar” types to pillory those who are against illegal aliens walking all over the country. It’s supposed to literally refer to those who oppose all immigration, though—and of course liberals deliberately conflate it with those who want immigration laws upheld. The term is typically only used by liberals and left-wingers.”

Actually you are only very slightly correct. It is a word used mainly by scholars... or fairly to well educated people. It has been in use since the mid 19th century. Not just in the US.
That being said, I completely understand what you are doing here. You are making your own history of this word to slap the OP and make him out to be a “liberal and left-winger”. Why? Because he has a differing opinion than yours and therefore he must be a left wing, liberal. That’s what this site does now. If you disagree, you are suddenly democrat.

Which is another reason why it is probably no mistake that Randian Libertarianism was born in the U.S.S.R.

Bingo! We have a winner! Folks who worry Trump “would be a fascist” don’t realize we are already living with fascism.

I think the big GOP DONORS are the real

Fascists.

They have no concern about the country, it’s people, or its borders.

I don’t see any of that. Many people particularly newscasters tend to overlook Trumps caveats ... the ones that usually come at the end of a definitive statement and a lot softer than the controversial ones.

Such as:

“I going to build the best wall “and it will have a beautiful gate”.

On deportation of families and children “We’ll find ways to work with them”.

Read and listen. It’s fascinating seeing the details emerge but get nary a mention from the talking heads.

Yes, the left will like you to believe that Trump is Fascist. Don’t fall for it. It’s a perfect narrative for them.

Exactly.

Thanks for the Dem-like reply.

I did not state when the term was coined. I merely stated who used it and who uses it, and the context therein.

My assessment of the thread author has no basis in a single word you say here. It is based on the manner of posting, which in the OP has no basis in fact and is rooted in argumentum ad hominem and the “FUD” that liberals and left-wingers are fond of spreading. I agree with evidence, not allegations—and the author provided no evidence, especially while hurling a Godwinite slander which at the present time is only worthy of ridicule (this does not mean rejection of that claim is argumentum ad lapidum take note).

BTW, it is solely liberals and hard leftists that use the “differing opinion” rhetoric. More kitten food at hand?

The kind of people I meet that support Trump tend to be the kind of people I would keep in the lifeboat, and the kind of people who attack Trump, tend to be the kind of people who got us into a lifeboat in the first place.

Fascism is an offshoot of socialism, adding nationalism and government control over what it doesn’t own. Exactly what liberals have been striving for - without the inky one good aspect, pride in one’s country.

NAZI = national socialism, an acronym from the German for it

So if Trump were pushing a form of socialism, don’t you think the liberals would be wall for it?

“If you feel like a citizen of Germany in the post-WWI days, maybe it’s because those citizens felt overwhelmed by the shame the world tried to heap on them, the onerous economic conditions of the time, and the hopelessness that arose from a weak, compliant government. Kind of like the United States today ...”

Plus the overwhelming debt the treaty if Versailles saddled Germany with. ($18 T for us, done by our own government)

Tip for trolling. Leave out words like nativist. It’s a dead giveaway that you’re a progressive. No freeper would ever use that word. It’s ivory tower lingo.

I know you didn’t mean it literally but imagine being stuck on a lifeboat with a Trump hater endlessly telling you why they don’t like Trump.

Man overboard!
