The Viking dynasty that once ruled in Sicily and southern Italy imported muzzie scholars to tutor the royal children. The dynasty didn't last long. I believe they're descended from Hrolf the Ganger, who founded the Norman dynasty in Normandy (France), and was also the ancestor (some way) of William the Conqueror.

My wife’s parents’ families are both from the province called Apulia, which has Bari as the principle city.
Rich in history dating to Greece, and true there was the Norman period. But there were also several other periods like Tuscan, Rome, French, Spanish, and there was German Holy Roman Emporer guy that built a cool castle with eight sides, etc.

From what I understand, all reports of "medieval muslim scholars" is bogus. In actuality, any scholars or scientists from that period of time and from the middle east were in all likelihood descendants from ancient Assyrians, forced by the locust armies of Arab muslims to call themselves muslim. Muslims then are as muslims now, good at raising their hand to strike against other peoples, and then using their scholars and scientists to conquer others. Just like today, with McCain and Obama giving Isis the Stingers and other high tech weapons which they use to kill us and others that are not muslim.
McCain, one of the biggest dumbasses in history.
