The Plan to Make California Wet By Spreading Beavers Up and Down the State

Ending the drought in the West will require rain—not too much rain—and smarter ways to collect and store that water. But something else that can keep things moist? Believe it or not: Beavers.

According to a story in Water Deeply, a group of ecologists have a plan to help repopulate the Central Coast of California with Castor canadensis, the large beavers which once roamed the state in great numbers. (Not to be confused with their ancestors, giant beavers that were seven feet long.) The idea is that beavers are nature’s hydrologists, engineering the way that water travels through the landscape:

Two beavers are better than one,
They’re twice the fun,
Ask anyone,
Two beavers are better than one

Are you surprised that beavers in the mountains would be suggested by nuts in congress?

The most recent beaver experiment was on an island between Argentina and Chile. It was a disaster.

The damned little bast*rds come out of the park that borders my property and they cut, damn and destroy everything in their wake. They nearly flood out the bridge to my house at times. They show up, we go to war, they lose and then return few months later. .22LR to the head is most efficient in ending the war but you have to catch them at dusk or at dawn to even get a shot at them. My late father in law wiped out 26 one year via 1911 and eventually had a construction company owner come in and dynamite their lodge.

Lately they have have stopped showing themselves at dusk and I have the country agriculture agent trapping them. He and the game warden have offered to help the local park set up a control program but the park enviro kooks will have none of it. So they spend their time around the county trapping and killing the overflow from the park of these tooth goomers. California if you do this you are stupid, but then again you have proven time and time again you really are stupid.

Must. Not. Say. Anything.

Let me guess, they are starting in Laurel Canyon?

Dear California Hiring Manager:

I am a 34 year old Non-Binary Cisfemale graduate student. I have a BA degree in Women's Studies, a masters degree in Vaginal Variations and am working toward my PhD in Afro-Lutheran Trans-Gender Studies.

I saw your ad for the California Beaver position and thought I would be perfect for the job. I am enclosing 12 photos of my beaver for your consideration.

Due to my study schedule I am only available for work one day per week, and I do require 2 months off each summer for mental health restoration. But, I am seeking a full-time position. My beaver has lots of experience.

I look forward to hearing back from you... and please use my Twitter account (@BigBadPiercedBeaver) to send me my hiring letter. Please send a good offer, because I don't want to play around with low-paying offers.

Just think. A protected beaver crawl on to Babs Streisand’s Malibu property. Who will the liberals cheer for?
