Flash forward 40 years; Manfred Rommel (the Field Marshal’s son) became mayor of Stuttgart and worked closely with U.S. Army commanders in his city, including an up-and-comer named Norman Schwartzkopf.

Manfred Rommel was also friends with Gen. George S. Patton IV, both sons of WW2 generals.
