WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Maybe nice guys really do finish last, after all. Women don’t view unattractive men as “dating material,” no matter how exceptional their other qualities are, a new study finds.
Researchers at Eastern Connecticut State University looked at the mate preferences of 80 young women, aged 15 to 29, while also having 61 of their mothers weigh in.
The participants were presented with photographs of men varying in both attractiveness and described as one of three dispositions:“friendly,” “pleasing,” or “respectful.”
Additional trait profiles were explained for each of the three dispositions. Men labeled “respectful” included the traits ‘respectful, trustworthy, and honest;’ the ‘friendly’ men were labeled ‘friendly, dependable, and mature;’ and the ‘pleasing” profile meant that the man was ‘of a pleasing disposition, ambitious, and intelligent.’
The women were then asked to assess how attractive they found each man photographed, along with whether they found the man suitable to date, either themselves or for their daughters.
Simply put, men viewed as unattractive were not viewed as potential suitors, no matter the level of other redeeming qualities that accompanied their photos. Those with favorable personality traits that were ranked highly were at least moderately attractive.

There are many people in the world that I find homely, and yet, they are happy with people who love them. If you get out and do something interesting or worthwhile, you’ll actually get to know people, instead of seeing their picture.
did the list of “other” attributes include “obscenely wealthy and VERY generous”?

Correlates with the amount of alcohol you, and maybe she, have consumed. Then it becomes the true definition of eternity. That’s the time between when you wake up and she leaves.

All that and how near it is to closing time.
If you can still walk, there might be other bars to take her. And if not, maybe a nightcap up at my crib. That is if I can find it. But if I’m that far gone, I may not be able to find anything else so the night is over anyway.

None of the above traits are of value in protecting a woman during pregnancy or while she's raising young children...
Money factors in, but much more so for older women. Those still in their prime fertility years are also looking for someone with good/healthy genes—and ugliness doesn’t connote that.
That looks like an almost familial hair-to-hair attraction.
Do you have any idea how many men have cherished specific women, just begging for the opportunity to care for them for life, and been rebuffed?
That may or may not be necessary, but it sure generally is not sufficient.

One thing is that if you are rich, especially self-made rich, you are probably smart and charismatic. That helps out a lot even if you are butt ugly.
