WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Maybe nice guys really do finish last, after all. Women don’t view unattractive men as “dating material,” no matter how exceptional their other qualities are, a new study finds.
Researchers at Eastern Connecticut State University looked at the mate preferences of 80 young women, aged 15 to 29, while also having 61 of their mothers weigh in.
The participants were presented with photographs of men varying in both attractiveness and described as one of three dispositions:“friendly,” “pleasing,” or “respectful.”
Additional trait profiles were explained for each of the three dispositions. Men labeled “respectful” included the traits ‘respectful, trustworthy, and honest;’ the ‘friendly’ men were labeled ‘friendly, dependable, and mature;’ and the ‘pleasing” profile meant that the man was ‘of a pleasing disposition, ambitious, and intelligent.’
The women were then asked to assess how attractive they found each man photographed, along with whether they found the man suitable to date, either themselves or for their daughters.
Simply put, men viewed as unattractive were not viewed as potential suitors, no matter the level of other redeeming qualities that accompanied their photos. Those with favorable personality traits that were ranked highly were at least moderately attractive.

Women like to claim that men are superficial and only care about looks whereas women are deep and care about other things.
That is a lie.
Women care about looks and cold hard cash.
This study is crap. If women can see the men and talk to them, their idea of ugly changes. If you just show a picture they have no chance. Its a bad study and says little about women or men.
Searching for empirical evidence while being stupid is a waste of time. One might as well just speculate being stupid and save the effort.
For those of us who have lived in the real world and learned about women we damn well know that women respond to one thing above all others: being taken care of by somebody who cares about them. Yes, good looking healthy and young are attractive visually to women more than ugly. And they can feel that attraction just by looking. But the attraction of a man who takes care of them and makes them feel loved and special and beautiful blows all that away. The study may profess to measure that but it obviously doesn't. The study only TALKS about that stuff, and women don't feel it unless they feel it. The ugliest guy is "cute" when she feels him doing that. If she doesn't know the guy and the morons doing the study just say he is caring and blah blah blah, she won't see him as cute. Duh!

Tinder is just the modern version of online dating and ladies always had the pick of the litter online.
Show pictures of their fat bank accounts to the same women and watch how fast the same guys get better looking.
It might have been partly covered by *how* they were dressed.
If they were all dressed in good fitting business suits, that would have taken out the status/money component.
If they were all in their birthday suits it would have done so as well.
But having one set in one type of clothes and another in another type of clothes makes the clothes an important, separate, variable.
Women don’t like fat slobs? Shocking.
Hate to break it to these geniuses but a live person, face to face is un quantifiable. Pictures and a description? Laughable...
That is quite true.
What about fat guys with lousy personalities?

The article seems to imply ugly woman who resemble 300 pound sweat hogs get lots of dates.
“They left out one essential rating factor: size of bank account.”
They also left another size thing out. Men with big bank accounts don’t normally parooze bars. Women that don’t want a lasting relationship look at the wallet, among other things.
