So, again, how does North Korea benefit from conducting a nuclear attack on the US?

How does North Korea benefit from threatening a nuclear attack on the United States?

China is the winner.

You forgot two *dis*advantages for China if a US city gets nuked:

1) Trump will declare martial law and drain the swamp bigly.

2) Say goodbye to the Chinese sub pens and the Three Gorges Dam.

“There will only be a war if NORKS miscalculate.”

Didn’t this last ICBM not perform accurately. One of these days one of their tests will take out Japan or somehere else by mistake (hopefully a chunk of China) and holy hell will ensue.

On the China side you left off “US purchases of Chinese products plunge and Chinese economy craters”

Very firmly, but very discreetly, the US needs to let the Chinese know that the North Korean government is a threat to both China and Russia, as well as the US.

And that the most peaceful outcome acceptable to the US, China and Russia, would be for the Chinese to very quickly decapitate the NorK government, installing a more peaceful government in its place, as well as to secure and take control of the entire NorK nuclear program, which would be taken to China for safekeeping.

From the Chinese perspective, this new government would put its resources into food production and stability, retaining just a small, professional military. From that moment, Koreans living in China would be encouraged to return.

The US would not in any way stimulate the South Koreans to reunify the peninsula, and any trade between the two would only happen gradually, and with transparency.

China would also be encouraged to monitor any international redevelopment aid flowing to North Korea, and could engage in bilateral trade negotiations with North Korea to the degree they desire.

Winter Olympics is in February.
I have a feeling nothing is going to happen until they are over with.

Or....it could be all done and over with before Christmas.
What Trump has to battle with is all those benefitting a long drawn out scenario, it fuels those that supply the military, but i have faith Trump won’t allow that to happen as its very evident he never approves of anything taking too long to finish.

I think I just told you. Again - you can disagree!

The NORKs benefit via the posturing & threats by being acknowledged by the world community as a “Great Power” & they get the practical benefit of extorting food & obtaining necessary goods for regime maintenance.

China before primarily by this continuing that is - “the state quo” , also it keeps South Korea & Japan focused on Norkland. China gets so much benefit from this it’s difficult to see how they allow the NORKs to go to war on the own. An war scenario is a lose for all but not an equal lose for all. War will only happen if someone miscalculates in the Chinese or NORK leadership. Could be both!

Best thing for China to do is replace FatBoy with a Nork commie on a tighter string and continue the periodic blustering.

Yes you’re right!
I still haven’t read anything that says they can successfully bring a warhead down back through the atmosphere. Shooting a nuclear warhead up and having it burn up into essentially nothing on re-entry is not very impressive.

Commie Obama met with Chinese leader after President Trump, I think Obama is undermining the solution to NK.

In my uneducated opinion, North Korea has no desire (or plans) to start a nuclear war with the US. As you said, there would be no good reason for doing so. It’s all about deterrence.

Think about it. The US topples the Taliban. Then Saddam. Then Gaddafi. Kim Jong-un knows he’s on the list. George W. Bush told him so (the reckless Axis of Evil speech).

From his point of view, Kim would be foolish not to come up with a meaningful deterrent.

Here’s an idea.

Instead of blowing up, starving and irradiating his own people, he asks for a peace treaty.

Gosh. That’s so hard.

I’d send him some Oreo cookies if he’d sign a peace treaty.

I know that N Korea did NOT SURRENDER after the ‘Korean War’. They signed a TRUCE. That truce is many years old now.

The recent beligerant behavior of the N K ‘leader’ tells me that he has violated the terms of that truce many times over.

Sanctions have not stopped his power desire.

I think Trump can go after him without ANY input from Congress—only the military to tell him what would work best.

Since he is NOT declaring war-—he is only reinforcing the terms of the original TRUCE........

I agree that Trump does NOT have to use anything nuclear.

We have plenty of ‘conventional’ weapons that can take out little Rocket Man.

> Instead of blowing up, starving and irradiating his own people, he asks for a peace treaty. <

I’m trying to think like Kim here. At the end of the first Gulf War (1991), Iraq and the US signed a ceasefire. There is peace. Then 10 years later the US invades Iraq. Saddam is ousted, and later executed.

It’s 2011. Libya and the US are at peace. A rebellion breaks out. The US and NATO help the rebels. Gaddafi is ousted, then is murdered. Hillary giggles and says, “”We came, we saw, he died.”

Kim would have to wonder how just much a peace treaty with the US is really worth.

(Note that I’m not defending Kim. His regime is certainly the worst in the world. I’m just trying to guess how he might think.)

A scenario: Kim Jung fat lights off a thermonuclear device in the test mountain. After a successful test he repairs to his palace to celebrate.

It’s a new moon and at approximately 0001 Zulu (well into Kim’s celebration), the order of battle begins.

At roughly 1000 hrs zulu, the little fat fu@ker with a bad haircut and kimchi breath is terminated.

Gosh.

We deserve to be nuked.

Which American city would you recommend that he blow up?

You know, so he’ll get what he wants.

I think you misunderstood my post. Or perhaps I didn’t present it very well. Anyway, I’m saying that perhaps Kim doesn’t want anything in this instance. He’s developing ICBM’s not to blackmail the US, but to deter the US from launching a “shock and awe” strike against him.

Revelation 9:18: The Sixth Trumpet: "(17)Now the horses and riders in my vision looked like this: The riders had breastplates the colors of fire, sapphire, and brimstone. The heads of the horses were like heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. (18) A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and brimstone that proceeded from their mouths. (19) For the power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; indeed, their tails were like snakes with heads to inflict harm.…"
