What Does It Mean to Die? When Jahi McMath was declared brain-dead by the hospital, her family disagreed. Her case challenges the very nature of existence. (New Yorker is not allowed to be posted)

Heartbreaking story.
Since we can’t cite from the article, I’ll just say the parents are trying to make it into a case of blacks getting less medical treatment than whites, implying a search for deep pockets.
If you can get past the blantant cries of racism by the family it’s an interesting story. As someone who has a parent in a dementia unit I can easily say I would not want to live like that nor would I want my family to incur the expenses of keeping me alive in such a state even if I can respond to commands. Pull the plug. I will be putting a non-ressusitate order in my will.
So many people here said she was dead, was decomposing, etc etc.
None will admit they were lying or even that they were wrong.
Well, one of the realities of socialized medicine is that poor black people may get minimal medical treatment. I see no reason why that information should be hidden from the public. And this is definitely an instance of medical malpractice.
“Heartbreaking story.”

It is. This is one of the hardest things for a patient and a family to go through.
Don’t expect them to anytime soon.
You can challenge it all you like, it ain’t gonna change.
It certainly reeks of malpractice.
just think of stepping on the shore and find heaven,
of touching a hand and finding it god’s,
of breathing new air and finding it celestial,
of waking up in glory and finding it home!
“It certainly reeks of malpractice.”

What’s sad is the girl asked the doctor some good questions beforehand, e.g. if he had a good night’s sleep.
Shouldn’t go in for tonsil removal and expect to end up the way she did.
There’s no cerebral activity whatsoever. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Her brain is not receiving oxygen. It is decomposing. She is not in a coma. She is not “brain injured”. She is not “brain damaged”. She is dead. Absolutely and unequivocally dead.

Yeah, this is the new racism deal. Serena Williams, (the 100 million dollar tennis champ) is claiming racism while she was in the hospital giving birth to her child. Evidently she has a history of pulmonary embolism (an unspoken side effect of PEDs). So she felt something was going on and the nurses refused to listen. She was begging for a CT scan and they only did a Doppler, and as it turned out she supposedly did have an embolism. Her take was that black people get less care than white people and have less credibility to the medical profession.
(My white husband was within minutes of dying and went code blue because the nurse wouldnt listen to me, and I am a white woman.). Fortunately, right before he coded, after arguing with her, I screamed to get a fu&$#@& doctor in here NOW which saved his life.
,
What do you expect folks to do? Deny the truth that the child is dead and participate in the fantasy that she’s alive because it makes you feel better?
