Can Cellphones Cause Cancer? Experts Surprised By Latest Tests

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Can cellphones really cause cancer? It’s been a question that’s dogged researchers for years.

However, a group of experts say the results of some tests are pretty surprising.

Millions of people constantly call, text, click, take pictures and play on cellphones.

Even the top cellular radiation researchers from around the world have a hard time untethering.

But, they gathered recently in North Carolina to talk about cellphone concerns and whether they really do increase the chances of developing cancer.

The panel voted that the results from years of testing on mice and rats were more significant than originally thought.

They say they found clear evidence that phone radiation caused tumors in the hearts of rats, which were similar to tumors in people.

“In humans, it’s seen in the vestibular nerve, in the ear, the acoustic nerve. We found it in the heart, although our animals were exposed in their whole body condition,” John Bucher said.

“While a given animal is not making a cellphone call, they are, throughout their short two-year lifetime getting the same exposure that we expect people to get in their 70-plus years of life,” Dr. Devra Davis, of Environmental Health Trust, said.

Activists are now calling for more protections, citing separate studies from France and Italy.

“Many brain tumor lawsuits going on right now that are waiting for a study like this to prove that people’s brain tumors were caused by their cellphone radiation,” Kevin Mottus, of the California Brain Tumor Association, said.

There are new concerns on the horizon as 5G, which is a stronger broadband system, is about to debut.

Some activists say the government has a responsibility to increase regulations.

“And I think it’s the responsibility of the ones making the phones to make them as safe as possible, and I’m sure they can do better than what we actually have,” Dr. Annie Sasco said.

Both activists and researchers agree that people can minimize any risk by holding phones away from the body when in use and not putting them in your pocket.

So if a guy carries a phone in his pocket is he going to get cancer in his gonads or prostate? Earphones causing brain cancer or just a lower IQ?

I was not aware the scientific method involved voting.

I use my iPhone for almost anything BUT a phone.

When I get a call I often hang up by mistake. I stay on the phone maybe 5 minutes at most when I do use it. I’m not used to using it very often as a phone. Maybe 2-3 calls a week. A bit more in texting. A whole bunch as an on line, portable, computer.

This effect was point out years ago when tests showed cell phone radiation caused changes in brain chemistry which could precede cancer in some individuals.

We don’t need rats - we have millions of humans already in this experiment - and so far, the data says, “no problem.”

I definitely feel like we’re seeing an uptick in glioblastoma. I know several people who are currently battling it, or have already lost. And whenever that topic comes up on Reddit, the number of people weighing on with stories about losing loved ones to it, or having it themselves right now, is staggering.

Well, the good news from what Dr. Black wrote — and why I think what he noted had credibility — is that the patients he was seeing who had brain tumors that he suspected had been caused by cell phone use, is that those patients were the types of people who were almost always on their cell phones, and they never used earbuds; they always had the cell phone pressed against their ears. So, that's a good argument for limiting use.

Which lawyer(s) will control the class action lawsuits?
That is the most important question.

A 30 year old lawyer could build such a class action lawsuit into a future presidential campaign.

Yes, plus a bad back from bending down to talk on a phone in his pocket.

“While a given animal is not making a cellphone call, they are, throughout their short two-year lifetime getting the same exposure that we expect people to get in their 70-plus years of life,” Dr. Devra Davis, of Environmental Health Trust, said.”

So they gave the lab rats as must exposure in two years as humans would have in 70? That is NOT an analogous comparison. Its apples and oranges. It ignores, scientifically, the human body’s abilities to mitigate the radiation, in the smaller doses they receive on a daily basis. To make an equal comparison they’d have to administer to humans as much radiation as they might get in 70 years, over just a two year period; but they didn’t do that because that is not what humans are going experience. Their false conclusions are based on a false analysis.
