Body found in Chattahoochee is missing CDC researcher
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 4/5/2018 | Alexis Stevens

A body pulled from the Chattahoochee River is that of an Atlanta researcher reported missing more than seven weeks ago, Atlanta police said Thursday.

Timothy Cunningham, 35, was last seen Feb. 12 leaving his job at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after telling colleagues he didn’t feel well. Cunningham’s family and police located his keys, wallet, cellphone, vehicle and his beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles, inside his northwest Atlanta home.

In the days after Cunningham’s disappearance, Atlanta police said he had been upset about not getting a promotion, according to the CDC. The CDC later retracted the information, saying that Cunningham had recently gotten a promotion.

Well, if this was anything other than a successful suicide attempt, doubt we’ll find out any time soon.

No, it was very fluffy-affirmative.

I honestly don’t remember not being able to swim, I was taught as a toddler. But, I honestly think if I couldn’t you wouldn’t catch me anywhere near water over my head without a flotation device or life jacket. We have fishermen fall off boats in the lake in the middle of the night here, drunk, can’t swim. Best fishing at night after a rain. There again, why they didn’t have on a life jacket, that’s just crazy.

Absolutely. When I kayak, I always wear a PFD, with a whistle, even in 3 feet of water. Sometimes a helmet too depending on how the river is flowing.

I never go out at night, but if I did, my PFD would also have a submersible light attached in addition to the whistle.

This does remind me of the Ode to Billie Joe about a suicide on the Tallahatchie River.

Wonder if the vic was dead before he entered the water...

Wondering the same, since via the nearest major road to the Chattahoochee River from Atlanta is a trip of about 100 miles; yet he didn't take his wallet, driver's licence or cell phone.

“parents found their son’s phone, keys, wallet, car and dog, with no trace of him in sight.”

body found in water 100 miles away.

Hinint it’s suicide.

Yeah. Leaves everything behind, including making no arrangements for his dog - and sprints 100 miles down the road to drown himself....(let’s not, for gosh sake, mention that it was suspicioned he had information he felt should not be kept secret - Sounds like an honest man with a conscience - another expendable to keep criminal behavior from being exposed?)

Trump.

Maybe.

I’m white and could never float on my back when I was younger. Main reason for that was my thighs were 29-30” around and extremely muscular; so much so that I could leg press 1,600#.

Haven’t other CDC guys died in the past few years? Or was it other kinds of scientists?

I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer close to four years ago. My doctors at MD Anderson tell me to get a flu shot. Tell them I got it from my regular doctor, but don’t get them. Just don’t believe they do any good.

There may be a time when I regret it, but I’d rather take my chances because getting the flu shot too often results in getting the flu.

There is access to the Chattochee River all over Atlanta and out from there in the burbs...the first thing that came to mind, was he found where that guy dumped all those black children years ago....

Thank you for the info. I was familiar with the Chattahoochee as the dividing line between Georgia and Alabama, farther south near Columbus and Fort Benning. It's wide down there -- good water skiing. Did not realize it flows so narrow and so much farther east through Atlanta, many miles north of Columbus. I stand corrected.
