Greetings from Missouri. We've had really hot humid and rainy weather this week. I did manage to get some of the patio clean up and sweeping done outdoors. Harvested some lettuce for a salad.

We have about a quart of strawberries - quite a few of the plants didn't survive the winter. So nice to have berries without pesticides.

Have some really great news. Several people called with a number of offers to buy my property/house in Springfield. So I called a realtor I know, and asked her to handle it and figure out what it was really worth.

She came back with a much higher figure, and then bumped it up to allow for negotiation. Listed it, and went to put up signs. After the first sign went up, a business owner walked across the street, and accepted the listing price. Cash, as is, no inspection needed etc. We close in 10 days.

Starting to draw up plans for the sun porch which will have windows, skylights, wood stove and solar panels to grow lots of fresh veggies in the winter. Do some more prep planning.

Looking at used cars to buy a better vehicle - and the list is growing. LOL

Hope every one is having a good weekend. Big Thanks to everyone who has served in the military, as we honor those who have fought to keep us free. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Well...I put those gladiolus bulbs in the ground today. I probably should have waited till fall, but perhaps having a warm wet summer will give them a healthy start.

I can’t wait till next spring! There were 24 of them!

Blessings to you all.
The storm last week is still conflicting us at he lake.

Lightening strikes burned out our sprinkler, yard lights, and gate opener.
We might make it past our deductible...

It has warmed up in the Colorado Rockies. No guarantee a freeze won’t happen though. I have had many freezes after the Indy 500. I may plant half this weekend and keep half indoors for a few more weeks.

Fantastic about the house!

My new batch of bees arrived today. I got them into the hive after dinner. I wanted to wait for it to cool off a bit, as it was 85 when I got home. They seem more active than the last bunch. Also, the queen is very close to escaping her cage: there’s a narrow hole all the way through the “candy” plug, that just needs to be enlarged a bit.

Also checked the garden, and found some of the winter squashes are coming up; but not the summers. Also, 9 of the 12 shallots are up so far.

We got about 1-1/2” of rain in the last week, in 1/4-1/2 inch increments; really helped the weeds!

It’s now nap time.

Got my packet of seeds from Baker Creek today. What can yall tell me about them? It’s almost too late to put in peas here, but Iam gonna try anyway. :)

We are working on the fencing on that garden this weekend. The groundhog and babies are already on the move. :(

Congrats on the house sale! And the new fun endeavors.

I planted all my seeds two weeks ago and then it poured. I was sure every seed got wash down the garden, since it is on a hill. But everything is starting to sprout!. I love this stage when I get to see all the new growth, it is so exciting.

Unfortunately there are weeds everywhere and my hands hurt too much to take care of it. Hubby is working extra time so he doesn’t have time either. Next year we are doing cover crops! I don’t know what or when yet, but I want them to smother every weed :-)

Thanks for the PING greeneyes! Congratulations on your Good Fortune with the sale of your property. We had a good soaking rain all day today which will make the weeds happy. I "worked" at the Church in the rain today repairing some drip irrigation the vagrants destroyed. Will try to transplant the sprouted corn this weekend...IMG_8318 2

We are FINALLY getting decent weather.

This year was so weird.

Snow right up until the end of April and then within two days, it was up to 80 and that was apparently, the date of the last frost. We were near to one only once since then.

I got my tomatoes and peppers in this past Tues, which is early for us. Usually, it’s not before Memorial Day. Even that extra week is a big help in getting them established and getting a good crop a little earlier than usual.

I have sauce tomatoes and have 454 plants and six beefsteak.

I hope to get a lot of canning done this summer.

Congrats on the quick sale of your Springfield house, Greeneyes. I take it this is a second house you’re relieved to pass on to another owner. I join you in wishing a happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone as we remember all who served. Hot and sunny and in the high 80’s in western PA. Picked up some red coleus plants for garden.

Here is a question for the experts here. All 9 of my tomato plants are big and all have green tomatoes growing. The grape has even already produced lots of yummy red snacks for my little daughter. They are all heirlooms.

But the two brandywine, my personal favorite tomato, are both turning completely yellow. They are in the same area as the others, they are not next to each other, but just THIS variety has yellowing leaves, it started on the lower leaves but now it’s all the way up.

What are these plants needing? (Dry adobe SoCal soil, I personally water the plants every day, haven’t “fed” much except foliar kelp spray)

Thanks!

Congrats! Are you moving to that town where you inherited property? - ;)

More onion plants have popped up from the bulbs. If the count of 100 is accurate, then I have 70 or 70+ of the 75 onion bulbs I planted, sprouting. I have about 25 really small ones left in the bag. Don’t know when I’ll harvest them.

They survived 2 snows and at least 3 freezing nights in the planters. I can’t believe it.

Good news - my 2 Sweet Basil pots from WM have 4 plants each so I’ve got 8 going. Added a little Miracle-Gro and eggshells for calcium (I have LOTS). I’m going to let them grow awhile so I can harvest a lot of leaves. The later leaves don’t seem to grow as well, mostly.

My RGYO bell pepper seeds, jalapeno, Serrano and Sweet Snacking pepper plants are doing good. Still protected from the Sun under a deck on the bench.

Same for the Cherry Tomato and Sweet Million Tomato plants - under a bench and doing well. Will transplant some but going to let them grow and get stronger.

Don’t know about my small bed garden. It appears all the tomato seeds and strawberry seeds (perhaps) that I threw down there (tomato slices) for compost may be getting their revenge. I planted 4 more Watermelon seeds since not much seems to be happening. There are 7 seeds down there (should be 15 more plants). We’ll see.

But there must be 150-200 plants coming up - all seemingly alike. Will they be tomatoes? Nothing in the yard nearby like them. I think I created a monster with constant lazy composting.

Well, I sowed them.......LOL

My garden is IN...with the exception of the winter squash and the melons that go in the lower garden - Beau's Domain!

It's HOT AS HECK and HUMID up here in 'Sconny for this Memorial Day Weekend, but I'm NOT going to complain, because it was still snowing on us in April! :)

We've had a few salads from the garden with greens I'm growing, and you can watch the Snap Peas growing, but mainly the benefit of the extremely WET Spring we've had is us harvesting GOBS of Golden Oyster Mushrooms:

Hot and humid here in Central Missouri the last few days. We got a bit of rain, just enough to forego irritigating the kitchen garden for a few days.

#2 Navy Son Clint is home and shacked up at my house after giving 12yrs to Uncle Sam. He's a big dummy for skipping out on the 8 more that would have earned him a full retirement, but it's nice to have him home.

Kitchen garden is rocking. I have tomatoes that are almost the size of a baseball. We'll be having BLTs on the 4th of July this year.

The weeds are growing fast, but Nanner is all fixed and we got the pumpkin field tilled up yesterday. I made a 2nd pass over it today. If we don't get any rain before my seed arrives it is ready to plant.

(Moved here from the Q thread)

“I tried Malabar spinach one year, wasn’t pleased with the taste, it didn’t satisfy my love of spinach. Tried salad and cooking it.

I’d eat it if I was hungry. But I wouldn’t hunger for it. It might just me my tastebuds, no reason ever not to try new things. It did grow like a weed in the heat.”

You can also eat sweet potato shoots. I have tried it. There is a lot of white latex in the vine, so you want to avoid that. There are videos from Thailand or the Phillipeans where people eat sweet potato leaves. They may have figured out the variety to use or they may just have figured out how to cook it to make it palatable.
