Yep, that’s the plan.

Think about the Swatting of the Hogg house yesterday. If they had an a slightly-out-of compliant AR leaning against against the wall, the owners would be facing 10 years in jail (if instead this had been CA, or other Leftist states). The gun may have been perfectly legal a week ago, but now it gets them 10 years.

So while pickup-driving big boys on this site may continue with their ‘bravado’ regarding “COME AND GET ME”, a few will be ‘got’ - perhaps due to a fire in their house, a car wreck, or an angry neighbor, ex, or co-worker swatting them, or simply ratting them out.

And to those who continue to defy the law - what good is AR when it’s illegal? You’re not taking it to the range, for sure. You’re risking a felony conviction by driving around in it. You’re a felon if use it in self-defense. About the only good it does you is that you can use it to stop your wife/daughter from being raped - but you’ll STILL have to spend huge bucks on a lawyer, and very possibly still become a felon. Unless you live in a very high-crime environment, the risk-reward trade will make the vast majority of people simply given them up...with the holdouts slowly getting scooped up then.

So the idea is to STOP THIS CRAP before the laws start to pile up...by whatever (legal) means we have.

“Never east of Wadsworth” is a good rule of thumb.

Absolutely and totally agree. This is a pivotal component or aspect that few here on FreeRepublic willingly acknowledge.

I am paranoid on bringing firearms when visiting friends a few states away because risk of mandatory prison for inadvertent felony is so disconcerting.
”Oh, you didn’t know semi-auto shotguns are restricted to only three shells during June, July, and August? Please put your hands behind your back...”

The way most firearm legislation is constructed is that violation of them is entirely at your own peril. Being unaware counts for nothing.
That typical roadside license/registration checkpoint that somehow leads to a quick vehicle inspection could put someone in prison long before their epic Molon Labe fantasy arrives.

Well said. I have a close family member who is LEO. The mention of his name kept me from a MANDATORY multi-year jail sentence for having firearms and ammo in my car after a hunting trip in another state. These laws are designed to criminalize and incarcerate non-criminals for the benefit of the monolithic State, and “R” and “D” really are distractions in this war which should be about preserving what is left of Americans’ liberty.

Wow...that was a very close call!
Thank goodness that everything worked out for you.

My theory is they make the legislation confusing and contradictory on purpose.
Like make a detachable magazine legal yet a traditional tube magazine (as on a .22 LR plinker) inexplicably illegal.

They absolutely know decent, law-abiding, and courteous people will be snared in the fog of confusion about the law. They also know we have families, friends, jobs, and homes and other “influencers” that may encourage people to voluntarily abandon the Second Amendment before they get hassled.

They actually WANT that to happen so other decent suburbanites can be pacified with periodic horror stories of innocent middle-class neighbors getting tossed in prison. Glad you were thankfully lucky.

The state has pre-emption. It’s going to court. Might be a trial case by the antis to see if they can invalidate state pre-emption laws.
