WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A white man who challenged a black family's use of a private community's pool has not only resigned from the homeowner's association board — he's also lost his job.

Sonoco announced Friday that Adam Bloom is no longer employed by the packaging and industrial products company, saying it doesn't condone discrimination of any kind, even if it happens outside its workplace.

And according to the police chief, Ms. Abhulimen identified herself correctly to the police officer, but has an alias on Facebook. No word if anyone has called to police on her for having a Facebook alias.

Apparently, Jasmine Abhulimen is a pharmacist, and that could be the reason she choose to have a Facebook alias.

If i had such a job, dealing with people who might have drug dependency issues, I would use an alias as well.

How many aliases does she need? Jasmine Abhulimen, aka Sally Kirk, aka Jasmine Edwards.

Why did she identify herself as Sally Kirk?

"...Sally Kirk / Jasmine Abhulimen / Jasmine Edwards..."

Plus there is a good chance that same person is posting here under a fourth alias seeking to defend this racist hoax. :-)

“How many aliases does she need? Jasmine Abhulimen, aka Sally Kirk, aka Jasmine Edwards.”

“Why did she identify herself as Sally Kirk?”

As I read it, Jasmine Abhulimen is her name, Jasmine Edwards is her Facebook alias, and Sally Kirk is the name of the street.

I don’t believe it is illegal to have a Facebook alias, and I don’t think it is against the law to live on a street named Sally Kirk.

“Winston-Salem Police Chief Catrina Thompson said there was no need for Edwards to show her ID.”

“The issue was brought up. The officers asked the questions that needed to be asked to get the issues resolved,” Thompson told WXII-TV. “They were able to prove that Jasmine had what she needed to get into the pool. At the end of the day, there was no need to see an ID, at that point, because there was nothing to say that an ID was necessary.”

Thus far, Chairman Bloom has apologized and Chief Catrina Thompson has stated that their was no need for Jasmine to show an ID.

“What name did she use when she joined the HOA? Sally Kirk?”

It could be that she was required to list her street name when she joined the HOA.

I also disagree with this company firing him.

In many states (so-called "right to work" states) an employee cannot be required to join a union as a condition of employment, and an employer can terminate an employee for any (non-discriminatory) reason, or for no reason.

Disagreeing with the company's decision, of course, doesn't mean that you believe the employee should have any kind of additional rights which are not specified in a formal employment contract...

“This looks like a false accusation of racism by a thin skinned person who was looking for anything that could be loosely interpreted as racism”

That about sums it up.

It’s a convenient way to get over if it works.

What reason did he have to believe she snuck into the pool?

Maybe he didn't recognize her and then she refused to show her ID.

She is not required to show an ID to the Pool Chairman.

How do you know?

I’ve been to a number of pools where the owners must show an ID and sign in.

The employment or non-employment status of Jasmine Abhulimen / Jasmine Edwards / Sally Kirk has nothing to do with this news story.
When did you last speak with Jasmine Abhulimen / Jasmine Edwards / Sally Kirk to hear her side of this community pool account?

Thanks for sharing your personal story. Very interesting to read. I’m sure teachers, police, ER could share many like it. Your approach was definitely right in theory. But the woman had most likely lived a life of never having to do for herself. I don’t know the woman or her circumstances, but without some serious digging into her soul, an epiphany, she probably didn’t have the mental, emotional, intelligence capacity to ever be any different.

Years ago, I read a story of young man that went to work for Teach for America. He had noble intentions. He was on the left working for the Al Gore campaign. But he left his life as he knew it and tried to make a difference in the world.

He got set up in the inner city at a school that was pretty much beyond hope. Horrible students. Horrible parents. Horrible administration. Your story reminded me of it, but his experience was a lot more intense as you will see if interested to read below.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your personal experience.

Yes, but she is still employed.

You don't come out and say it directly, but once again, you seem very pleased that a man lost his livelihood over virtually nothing. I don't like to put those kind of vibes out into the atmosphere. But that's just me.
