I did not get it. I do things to boost my immune system. I do not trust Big Pharma. My last flu shot was in 1978. I got the flu once since then.

I think the new one is a 2-shot deal. I believe it just became available earlier this year. But I am not a doctor, nor have I ever played one on TV.

“Interesting that people here are getting 2 shots. Pretty sure he got one shot.”

The “old” one was just one shot. The new one which just came out late 2017 is a two shotter. Old one didn’t hurt but people are complaining about soreness with new one.

My PCP wanted to give me the shingles vac at my regular checkup, but said he didn’t want to do it at the same time as my tetanus booster. Does anyone know if there is some conflict between the meds?

The new singles shot cost me $49. out of pocket at Walmart with insurance. They told me it would have cost $150. without insurance.

To keep from getting shingles I would be willing to pay much more as my mother had chronic shingles and suffered greatly.

I had the same soreness in the upper arm where I got the shot, the first dose, a week ago, but no other repercussions. I have seen shingles kill people . . . it is not just a rash; it wreaks havoc on all the body’s systems. For the elderly, it is particularly dangerous. Everyone, in my opinion, should get the new vaccination, which is made from a dead virus, not live; it can’t “give you” the shingles. But, it is considered to be 90% capable of protecting you from getting it.

I had my shingles shot almost 4 years ago. No problems. My neighbor and a close friend both had shingles near their ear. Both suffered serious hearing loss. Shingles gets in the nerves, kinda like Maxine Waters. You can suffer sight damage as a result...again like Mad Max. Scabs and pain are not the worst of it. Get the vaccine shot and hope for the best.

I’m curious, too.

My drs have recommended me getting it and about taht time, the new vaccine came out.

I am wondering how the new one, Shingrix I think it’s called, is working out for people.

Less than a year out, so time will tell.

Take the shots. Getting shingles is extremely painful and there is a possibility they can return.

Kinda confirming what others said.

I got the old shot when I retired at 55 basically because I had $$$ in my HSA to waste so my Dr said it was fine even though they recommended it for 60 and older.

That, he said was 50-60 Percent effective.

My annual check up this year he told me about the new vaccine so I got it. I didn’t remember about a follow up so it will be interesting to see if I get some kind of notification for that.

As others have stated it was sort of painful on my arm for at least 4-5 days. Worse than any other shot I’d ever had. But it did slowly subside and go away.

A very good family friend (female) got shingles around her ‘privates’ and her back and hip and said it was the most painful thing she ever experienced. And it lasted several months. So I was definitely on board to do whatever might help me avoid it. I really do NOT do well with pain!

Before I got the first one my Dr/lab did a blood test and confirmed that I had had Chicken Pox prior. I had no knowledge or remembering having it so they can test to see if the virus is in you laying dormant.

I got the shot about 4 years ago. Had a very mild case of shingles 2 years ago. Red patch on skin, some burning, but it never developed into blisters. Mild case was chalked up to having had the vaccine.

I do take a flu shot......
.....the one year, 1977, I chose not to......I got the flu, the real flu

What horrifies me the most are the multiple vaccines hospitals insist newborns receive before they are released after their birth ....
......

Possibly......I had a bad reaction to DPT ( Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus)...
....and so my doctor honors my refusal of Shingles Vaccine

A friend of ours at church gradually lost the vision in one eye from shingles on his face and finally had to have the eye removed last week. Never thought about it before, but I’ll discuss the vaccine with our GP next visit.

I had the “new” shingles vaccination, which is actually two shots administered three to six months apart. I had the shot four months apart. After each shot, I experienced influenza-like symptoms that lasted about 36 hours: low grade temp, body chills, body aches, headache, etc. Better than shingles, however.
